[ Kakashi lets Iruka take the lead, falling behind him in step as they approach. It is easier this way. Easier to let Iruka handle the small talk, the smiling, the shit that doesn't really matter anyway. They need to escape from here, and this is all Kakashi's mind is centered upon -- this singular goal of getting them out of this strange place and back home -- if there even is a home to which they can still return. Though the girl, Rin, had assured him that there is a version of their selves that remain back home, even if they are here, she could not say whether their being here somehow weakens that self; if the fact of their presence somehow leeches power.

And when they are in the middle of a war, every ounce of power counts.

It will be strange, Kakashi thinks, to see Naruto like he was before he became a sage. Before he mastered the monster jailed up inside his body. Almost like the river of time moving backwards, instead of forwards like time should flow.

He nods to Naruto and Sai in greeting as the distance between them closes, raising a hand in something of a wave. ]
