The best thing about parties was the beer. The second best thing about parties was the food, and it came in a very close second. That was a good thing considering this party didn't happen to have beer. Harry wasn't exactly a wine person, so he simply indulged in the food instead.
Harry had loaded up a plate with just about anything that looked decent for round one and found himself a comfortable spot along the wall to eat. One not far from the food tables so he could happily go back whenever he pleased. As he munched he noticed the sign on the dance floor. His lips twitched into a smile. It sounded like something he would write. Nice.
Juudai had left a message on Johan's Hitomi telling him that there was a party and that it was the Place To Be At, Dog, but since Johan hadn't yet returned his call, Juudai's second priority had come into play: food.
After clearing the table of fried shrimp, Juudai made as if to stroll away with a veritable mountain of the stuff on his plate, and nearly bumped into someone standing close by.
"Oops!" he said, but he managed not to drop a single shrimp. Awwwww, yes. "Sorry about that!" Actually, on a second glance - "I don't think we've met," Juudai said, nodding to the stranger. "Yuki Juudai. You?"
Yeah, this Harry guy was really tall. Given Juudai's rather unimposing height of 5'5", he'd have to hold this conversation at a distance that didn't require him to crane his head back.
"Fair enough. How long have you been in Kannagara?" He gave Harry an encouraging smile.
"Not quite a month. Long enough to realize it's going to take awhile to learn enough about this place to feel like I have the hang of it."
Like Chicago. A place of many surprises, not all of them good. In all honesty, Harry was a touch out of sorts knowing he was here without any of the usual resources he always had. Sure, there may not be the same bad guys trying to kill him, but he had a certain knack for running into trouble. Trouble he would rather prefer to have the help of Bob, Murphy, and whoever else possessed the skills he needed to call on.
Juudai laughed a little. "I've been here for... nearly a couple months now, and I don't know if I'll ever feel like I have the hang of it. But it's not so bad." There are a lot worse places to be, and Juudai's got his friends. He's lucky in that respect.
Which reminded him: "Is there anyone else from your world here, Harry?" He chomped on a shrimp while waiting for Harry's reply.
"Nope. Just good old me." He thought about that answer for a second before adding. "Unless there are some I don't know about."
Harry popped one of the little tart like desserts into his mouth. It wasn't like anything he'd ever had before, but it was still very good. Most of the food here was that way.
"I see," Juudai said. He was about to say, I'm sorry, but then he realized that Harry might consider it a good thing that his friends and family are home where they (logically) belong... but on the other hand, he couldn't really say that's good because then Harry might be lonely without them? Ugh.
"Well, if there's anything you need help with, let me know!" Juudai smiled. "I'd be happy to help you out."
"Good to know. I'm still working on figuring things out myself." And there was a lot to figure out. He'd gotten the basic living things down. The food, the water, where to live. He was working on the job, though it may not pan out the way he wanted it to.

Jack was not ordinarily a sociable person, but he'd always enjoyed parties in the past. Mostly this was because the majority of the parties he'd been to had involved people admiring him, often because he was the reason there was a party in the first place. It was important that people be given a chance to admire him.
Today, though, his motives were more practical. He wasn't earning the kind of money here that he'd earned as a professional duelist, and he wasn't good at managing what he had. He was also completely and utterly incapable of cooking anything more complex than a microwave meal. Free food - good food, which he did not have to prepare himself - sounded like an opportunity he shouldn't waste. He prowled along the buffet tables, selecting delicacies and thinking wistfully of better days.
pffft. He just. pings the jerkish side of Raikou~pinktintedgamonAugust 11 2011, 13:35:42 UTC
[Oh... Raikou remembered this guy. This was the person that had brought out such a lovely display of Gau's temper upon arrival. He was also the one that he'd watched duel with Juudai not too long ago.
A little of his old mischief shined for a brief flash as he stepped up to stand beside the blond, reached right past him with a murmured 'excuse me' to grab the last of the honey cakes that Gau had brought.
Other than that, it was time to see if he'd react to what used to be one of Raikou's favorite games: Ignoring You.]

Jack eyed Raikou warily out of the corner of his eye. He remembered the man well enough - the snide one who threw drinkware at people. While Jack had to feel some grudging respect for anyone who could fit that description, he nevertheless didn't think he liked him.
Raikou hummed a light note, then reached between them to add a few meatbuns to his plate before finally glancing up to smile politely at the man, as if he hadn't just given a social slight in the least.
His head canted to the side as he gave the man a slow once over, then laughed. "I like your style, you know that? It's... different. I trust you've gotten settled since your arrival, right?"
Raikou blinks at that and arches a brow, more amused than anything, given this man's arrival. "I would not have expected to hear that, given the rather... notable arrival you had here."

"As long as you didn't lose your food, and I didn't lose mine we're good."
His smile widened a bit.
"Harry Dresden."
