Juudai still wasn't sure where he was going - he'd started off thinking he'd go offer his help building that ryokan thing, but he'd ended up just wandering around the outskirts of town for a bit, noticing some of the architecture and mentally mapping out better routes to take next time he came up here to run errands. Oh, man, "running errands?" Those two words were the first things to start making one feel old.

{ Yubel scoffed at the thought. Juudai, you haven't felt old until you've passed your first millenium because someone took eons to reincarnate. }

"Not my fault," he said aloud, thinking he was alone. "Anyway, it's not like that's - aaah!" Aaah, of course, being the sound one makes when one is struck in the face by a tiny ball of hair and limbs.

Juudai's right hand went straight to the deck holder at his hip, but he couldn't get anything out fast enough.

"CHIPS!" Mikey yelled as he rounded the corner fearing the untimely demise of his precious pet monkey. To his relief, Chips was fine. The only problem was that he was attached to someone's face and didn't seem to want to let go. "Hey buddy are you okay?" Mikey asked the monkey as he approached the two. "C'mom." He got a firm grip of the monkey around the middle and attempted to pull him right off. The only thing that accomplished was that Chips tightened his hold on Juudai's hair and ears.

A faintly familiar voice was saying something, but Juudai couldn't perceive anything other than the fact that something or someone large was now trying to pull his face in the other direction.

He finally got a hold on the first card that came to his hand and shouted for help. A warm surge along his arm (and a momentary flash behind his eyelids) and the spirit of the card he'd summoned popped out to lend its assistance.

"Kuri kuri~!"

"Hane Kuriboh?" Juudai still couldn't see through the tiny mass of nails and hair in his face, but he heard Kuriboh chitter something like brief laughter before gripping the animal's tail and yanking.

Wow, things were getting weirder and weirder. But with the little brown fluffy thing's help, Mikey managed to yank Chips off of Juudai's face. "Aww are you alright Chips?" He crooned to the baby monkey as it chittered pathetically. "You shouldn't have run away from Daddy you know." He nuzzled the little guy before glancing over at Juudai. "Hey sorry dude, it's, like, hard to keep track of him all the time." Mikey grinned and held waved a green three fingered hand at the boy.

Winged Kuriboh fluttered around Juudai's head, trilling his concern (and, guiltily, his mirth as well), while Juudai ran a hand over the tiny stinging cuts on his face where the tiny monkey had dug his nails into his skin.

"You - " Juudai choked out after the shock had died down a little - "You need to keep an eye on your pets, man!"

Huh, that was funny, this guy didn't seem that bothered by Mikey's appearance. He even seemed a little familiar. "I do keep an eye on him... he just gets into trouble when I'm not looking." Now he could almost understand how Master Splinter felt. He gave the boy a wide grin, "My name's Mikey, who are you? And what is that?" He pointed at the little brown fluffy thing (with wings).

"Juudai. We met on the network, didn't we?" Yeah, Juudai definitely remembered Mikey - not a spirit, just a turtle from another world. Wonder if he's met Elfangor yet?

Winged Kuriboh fluttered up between the two of them, chittering, with that little smile he sometimes makes just by wrinkling up his eyes. "And that's Hane Kuriboh," Juudai said. "He's my partner." A partner that doesn't try to eat other people's faces.

"Aww cool!" Mikey said enthusiastically as he set Chips back onto his shoulder. "I remember you!" How exciting! "Hi there Hane!" He said to the furry brown thing and reached out to pet it.

Winged Kuriboh retreated, scolding slightly. "Just Kuriboh's fine," Juudai said.

Now that Chips the monkey wasn't violently attached to Juudai's face, he did seem like a pretty adorable little guy. "You know, I normally have a lot better luck with monkeys," he said, thinking of SAL back on Duel Academy Island.

Mikey guessed that Kuriboh didn't like to be petted, and felt a little disappointed. "Do you? I found chips when he was just about to be eaten by blobby things with teeth. I couldn't find his parents, so I decided to keep him." Chips let out a shriek as if to confirm his statement.

That made Juudai look at the two of them in a little more of a different light. After a moment, he smiled. "That takes a good person, I think." Translation: you're a pretty stand-up guy, Mikey! Juudai has decided he likes you! Even if your monkey did try to forcibly remove his face!

It was time to rebuild this bridge. Juudai held out a hesitant hand to Chips. "Does he... like people very much?" Translation: not the face again not the face again not the face again -

Chips cocked his head at Juudai and glanced over at Mikey. Mikey gave him a stern look and Chips seemed to grin. The monkey hopped over onto Juudai's shoulder and nuzzled him affectionately. "Aww he likes you!" Mikey crooned happily. He laughed, "So Juudai, where do you come from? I mean, like... your world. What's it like?"

Juudai ran a hand over Chips' head and laughed - the monkey was very cute when he wasn't a screaming ball of fur.

"My world? It's sort of..." How to describe his world to someone who'd never been there? Are there similarities to Mikey's? "We have a lot of cities, and countries, and billions of people. People have landed on the moon. There have been wars, but there aren't any major ones going on right now."

Winged Kuriboh fluttered onto Juudai's other shoulder, making him look like some sort of friend to all the animals. He pensively stroked Chips' fur as he went on: "The major difference between my world and a lot of people here is that, in my world, there's this game called Duel Monsters, which a lot of people play. But it's actually... it's a long story, but the cards are connected with real spirits in other worlds. Kuriboh here is one of them." Nodding, the little spirit chirped, kuri kuri!

"Wooooooow... So it's like a future world!" That was so awesome! Mikey's imagination zoomed forward and imagined all the amazing things that could exist in the future. "That's pretty epic! Can anyone summon a spirit?" Mikey asked as he edged a little closer to Kuriboh. "And what others can you summon? In my world, we can't summon spirits. But we do have other really cool stuff. Like this!" He pointed at the golden amulet around his neck with a red three toed foot sign on it. "This can give me awesome speed and stuff!" He laughed eagerly and eyed Kuriboh some more. The little guy was just so cool!

"No, not just anyone can actually summon spirits," Juudai explained. "It's pretty rare for people to even be able to see or speak to them, actually." Though, sometimes it seemed to Juudai that it was beginning to happen with slowly increasing frequency. Which was fine by him - that was part of his overall goal, after all. "And of those few, usually it's only one or two spirits that they form a strong bond with. But I can talk to pretty much anyone."

Kuriboh fluttered up to Juudai's head. "Anyway, we don't have anything like that in my world," Juudai said, gesturing to Mikey's amulet. "At least, not yet."

So... does that mean that people can only see them when you summon them... Or can I see them too?

[Mikey asks as he holds out his arms for Chips to come back to him. The little monkey does and Mikey grins.]

This amulet is supposed to be special. Like, only acolytes of the Ninja Tribunal have them. That sounds cool and all, but considering what they expect from us, I'd rather be home eating pizza and watching tv.
