Even though it was now well past the time he normally would be awake he showed no signs of waking just yet, his face peaceful under the bruises that were just starting to heal.

"Good day, Ginko." His voice was surprisingly low (for him.)
Reply
"Hnnn... what time is it?" Judging by the sun, he'd slept too long.

Crouching down, Gai got almost to eye-level with Ginko. "I was wondering how you were recovering, and I saw you here, so I thought I would check."

He sat up carefully, this time prepared for the pain as muscles and skin (and in a few cases, bone) shifted. He wasn't happy about it, but he was able to do it. And that was all that mattered right now. He would heal, thanks in part to this man and his... ward. He still wasn't sure just what Lee was to him.
"Ah... whatever that doctor gave me was pretty damn effective." Or maybe his body had just needed sleep that badly. Walking here last night had taken more than he'd expected out of him... he started to reach up to rub the back of his head, stopped as his ribs twinged, and instead shifted carefully so he could see Gai more easily.
He sighed gingerly. "I'll live. Thanks to you and Lee. And..." He was cut off by his stomach, which growled abruptly. He chuckled, a little sheepishly. "...do you know if they're selling food here?"

"Good. It is nice when things do what they are supposed to." He frowned at the raised hand. Likely Ginko had wanted to do something but stopped. "Did you need assistance?"
The comment about living gave a serious edge to Gai's smile, but he understood. "There is some cooking in that direction." Gai nodded to indicate it. "Do you need assistance to get there?"

He glanced in the direction Gai indicated. "No, I think I'll be able to make it under my own power. I walked here, didn't I?" His ribs were broken, not his legs.
Getting to his feet carefully, Ginko stood there for a second or two, making sure he was steady on his feet. Then he started walking in the direction of the food. Gai could go with him if he wanted--Ginko wouldn't mind the company.

Gai frowned, rubbing the back of his neck. "I... Did you? I did not know how you got here. I believe I owe you an apology there. When Lee was... When they... I forgot you, and I am sorry. You were injured and my focus became entirely on my loss and not your injuries."
He walked slowly beside Ginko, ready to support him if he slipped or stumbled.

Ginko sighed as he continued to walk slowly along--much more slowly than usual, in deference to his aching ribs. "Kakashi escorted me from your house. We got here last night."
He was going to go on, say he owed the terse man a favor, but Gai's words snatched at his attention. Loss? "Eh? Did something happen to Lee?" He'd tried to keep up with the Hitomi a little since he'd been injured, but he'd probably missed more things than he'd seen. Sleeping for far longer than he was used to was an annoying necessity.

"A mob caught up with Lee. They were upset with him for defying them. He was killed." That was far more harmless than saying how Lee had died, really. There was something intentionally horrific about crucifying someone. "People come back to life here, though. He is alive again." Maybe this wasn't an unfamiliar thing to Ginko, but it was rather strange to Gai.

"...someone did tell me that." But he'd forgotten it, in all the chaos that had been going on. Forcing his breathing to remain calm, and trying to settle his expression back to his normal calm expression, he said, "I'm sorry you had to go through that." It was a polite, routine comment that anyone might say after hearing about a death. But Ginko meant that. If he had been the cause of Lee's death... he was truly sorry.

"There have been a few deaths and disappearances. Not everyone is accounted for yet, including someone else from my world." He shook his head. There was a lot going on, but it wouldn't do to innundate Ginko with that. The man was injured, and Gai wasn't sure if Ginko did any sort of fighting where he came from. "But the important thing for you to focus on is recovery, I believe.
Reply
"Ah... I can see why everyone who could came here." If things were so bad out there... the people of Mizusato seemed like the most receptive to outsiders, too. Though who knew how long that would last, with all of them coming here. "Mmmm... I hope the missing ones are found soon." He shook his head slightly, mimicking Gai without meaning to, and started toward the food smells again. "Yeah... not like I could do anything even if I wasn't hurt, anyway."

He looked over at Ginko, frowning. "So you are not a combatent. What do you do, back home? Is there anything that you specialize in that could be utilized here?" They were in the midst of a building crisis. Any skills that could be applied should be, and Gai didn't know what all everyone could do. The more people he sought out and spoke to, the more likely he could assist in putting together and enacting a plan to get this all stabilized. "Is there any form of physical conflict you deal with?"

Actually, if the mushi continued to be weak, harmless things... he'd probably end up actually becoming something more of a doctor. It would be a good way to earn some money, and it would be easy enough for him to do, really.
"I'm not really a fighter, at all." Otherwise, he would have put up more of a fight when those slavers grabbed him.
They were finally approaching the food and he got a bowl of something and some chopsticks from one of the people tending it, with a nod of thanks.
