Feel free to bug him~ he'll wake up if someone talks to him, probably verdant_walker March 3 2011, 22:17:02 UTC
Ginko had arrived in the camp sometime last night, along with Gai, Lee, and Kakashi. The doctor in the camp had eventually gotten around to taking a look at him, and had given him something for the pain in his ribs and back. Apparently, it had also been something to make him sleep; he had pretty much passed out soon after that, in one of the many beds that had been set up.

Even though it was now well past the time he normally would be awake he showed no signs of waking just yet, his face peaceful under the bruises that were just starting to heal.

He dropped by Ginko's bed to check on him. While they hadn't spoken much yet, Gai felt a little bad about forgetting the other man when everything went downhill. If Ginko needed sleep Gai didn't want to bother him, but if Gai was quiet and Ginko woke then it must be fine.

"Good day, Ginko." His voice was surprisingly low (for him.)

The sound of his name did what the brightness of the sun and the background murmur of the camp hadn't; Ginko's eye flicked open. He blinked a few times before he rolled over onto his back without thinking--and let out a soft groan as his ribs and back let him know they weren't happy with him. He waited until the pain subsided again before he spoke.

"Hnnn... what time is it?" Judging by the sun, he'd slept too long.

He frowned at the groan. That didn't sound good. "It is late, in the afternoon. Are you still not doing well? And can I help?"

Crouching down, Gai got almost to eye-level with Ginko. "I was wondering how you were recovering, and I saw you here, so I thought I would check."

He still doesn't know Lee died or that it was partially his fault verdant_walker March 7 2011, 03:04:25 UTC
The afternoon... damn. He'd slept way too long...

He sat up carefully, this time prepared for the pain as muscles and skin (and in a few cases, bone) shifted. He wasn't happy about it, but he was able to do it. And that was all that mattered right now. He would heal, thanks in part to this man and his... ward. He still wasn't sure just what Lee was to him.

"Ah... whatever that doctor gave me was pretty damn effective." Or maybe his body had just needed sleep that badly. Walking here last night had taken more than he'd expected out of him... he started to reach up to rub the back of his head, stopped as his ribs twinged, and instead shifted carefully so he could see Gai more easily.

He sighed gingerly. "I'll live. Thanks to you and Lee. And..." He was cut off by his stomach, which growled abruptly. He chuckled, a little sheepishly. "...do you know if they're selling food here?"

Aww. Gai might wind up squishing him spandexisyouth March 7 2011, 05:33:52 UTC
Carefully he watched Ginko, trying to make sure the other man was actually all right and not pushing himself too far too fast. Not like Gai would know what that looked like. Not at all.

"Good. It is nice when things do what they are supposed to." He frowned at the raised hand. Likely Ginko had wanted to do something but stopped. "Did you need assistance?"

The comment about living gave a serious edge to Gai's smile, but he understood. "There is some cooking in that direction." Gai nodded to indicate it. "Do you need assistance to get there?"

Mind the ribs, plz =_= verdant_walker March 7 2011, 06:10:39 UTC
"I'd be happier if I knew what it was." And all the side effects, if possible. But it hadn't killed him, and he felt much better than he had yesterday evening, so he wouldn't worry about it for now.

He glanced in the direction Gai indicated. "No, I think I'll be able to make it under my own power. I walked here, didn't I?" His ribs were broken, not his legs.

Getting to his feet carefully, Ginko stood there for a second or two, making sure he was steady on his feet. Then he started walking in the direction of the food. Gai could go with him if he wanted--Ginko wouldn't mind the company.

Of course. spandexisyouth March 7 2011, 23:36:01 UTC
"Oh. Do you know things about medications?" Names of drugs would do little for him, but maybe for Ginko it would be different. "Perhaps the doctor is still nearby and can tell you if you see him."

Gai frowned, rubbing the back of his neck. "I... Did you? I did not know how you got here. I believe I owe you an apology there. When Lee was... When they... I forgot you, and I am sorry. You were injured and my focus became entirely on my loss and not your injuries."

He walked slowly beside Ginko, ready to support him if he slipped or stumbled.

"Yeah, having a decent knowledge of different herbs and medicines is part of my job... or it was, two weeks ago." He nodded. "Good idea. There's a good chance I'll know what it is, if he tells me the ingredients--the plants in this place aren't much different from what I'm used to seeing." Though there was every chance they would have different names. Maybe he could get the doctor to draw them for him, or just show him the original plants...

Ginko sighed as he continued to walk slowly along--much more slowly than usual, in deference to his aching ribs. "Kakashi escorted me from your house. We got here last night."

He was going to go on, say he owed the terse man a favor, but Gai's words snatched at his attention. Loss? "Eh? Did something happen to Lee?" He'd tried to keep up with the Hitomi a little since he'd been injured, but he'd probably missed more things than he'd seen. Sleeping for far longer than he was used to was an annoying necessity.

:D -- I typed mob as mawb at first... spandexisyouth March 9 2011, 04:37:34 UTC
"Oh." He hadn't realized that Ginko didn't know what had happened. It made sense, though. No one had spoken on the network about it. Gai wondered if he should sidestep. Probably not. "Yes." The key was phrasing this so that Ginko didn't feel at fault or anything. Gai didn't blame Ginko for what had happened, and didn't feel that Ginko should blame himself either.

"A mob caught up with Lee. They were upset with him for defying them. He was killed." That was far more harmless than saying how Lee had died, really. There was something intentionally horrific about crucifying someone. "People come back to life here, though. He is alive again." Maybe this wasn't an unfamiliar thing to Ginko, but it was rather strange to Gai.

Ginko's steps faltered at that, and he stopped walking. "Killed?" His voice was blank with surprise as he turned to face Gai more fully, and he wasn't sure about his expression under the bruises. Surprise, certainly, with maybe a little shock or pity thrown in. Maybe both. Was he killed because he helped me...? It didn't really matter one way or the other, he'd died either way. But Ginko couldn't help wondering if it was his fault the young man had died.

"...someone did tell me that." But he'd forgotten it, in all the chaos that had been going on. Forcing his breathing to remain calm, and trying to settle his expression back to his normal calm expression, he said, "I'm sorry you had to go through that." It was a polite, routine comment that anyone might say after hearing about a death. But Ginko meant that. If he had been the cause of Lee's death... he was truly sorry.

Gai bowed his head in acknowledgement of the comment. "Thank you. He was, but... He is back. That is the important thing." He hoped very much that he was the one suffering the most. He didn't want Lee to have to work through half of what Gai was. Maybe he shouldn't be so protective; Lee was a ninja in his own right. But Gai couldn't help it.

"There have been a few deaths and disappearances. Not everyone is accounted for yet, including someone else from my world." He shook his head. There was a lot going on, but it wouldn't do to innundate Ginko with that. The man was injured, and Gai wasn't sure if Ginko did any sort of fighting where he came from. "But the important thing for you to focus on is recovery, I believe.

That was another thing Ginko wasn't sure what to think about... the idea of someone coming back to life was not unfamiliar to him, but he knew the motivations the various mushi had. He had no idea about these Gods... why did they bring them here, to a place they were hated? And why did they bring them back? More and more, he wanted to speak to one of these Gods, maybe even ask them those very questions.

"Ah... I can see why everyone who could came here." If things were so bad out there... the people of Mizusato seemed like the most receptive to outsiders, too. Though who knew how long that would last, with all of them coming here. "Mmmm... I hope the missing ones are found soon." He shook his head slightly, mimicking Gai without meaning to, and started toward the food smells again. "Yeah... not like I could do anything even if I wasn't hurt, anyway."

Gai wanted to talk to the gods too, for just the same reasons. This world was such a mess and Lee had already paid much too high of a price for it.

He looked over at Ginko, frowning. "So you are not a combatent. What do you do, back home? Is there anything that you specialize in that could be utilized here?" They were in the midst of a building crisis. Any skills that could be applied should be, and Gai didn't know what all everyone could do. The more people he sought out and spoke to, the more likely he could assist in putting together and enacting a plan to get this all stabilized. "Is there any form of physical conflict you deal with?"

"I'm... something of a doctor." He half-grinned at that description of what he did, knowing that if Adashino had been here to hear that, he'd never hear the end of it. "I treat people for certain maladies, mostly ones caused by mushi, but I know a little about other kinds of medicine, too."

Actually, if the mushi continued to be weak, harmless things... he'd probably end up actually becoming something more of a doctor. It would be a good way to earn some money, and it would be easy enough for him to do, really.

"I'm not really a fighter, at all." Otherwise, he would have put up more of a fight when those slavers grabbed him.

They were finally approaching the food and he got a bowl of something and some chopsticks from one of the people tending it, with a nod of thanks.
