It had been something of a shock for Raikou, to see Yoite crossing before the shop window of the little Washi shop. He’d begged off early, since his work for the day had already been completed, and aside from a quick detour to get his gamon from the owner’s wife, found his steps shadowing Yoite’s all the way back to the peaceful little shrine ( ... )

Yoite's boots slipped ever so slightly at the brow of the hill where morning dew still lingering to make the dirt path lightly slick with mud. But as always he was quick on his feet and nary stumbled. Thus he was fast to regain himself and continued quickly into the rise of the long grass. Raikou held perfectly still on his branch, high above normal line of sight on the opposite bank from the shrine, and watched Yoite. And for once, his gaze on this young man wasn't questioning or somber - it was bright with barely supressed mirth and mischief.

That reaction reminded him of some stupid American commercial, actually.

Futon - one Shu and 23 Mon, Decent made kakebuton - 48 Mon and a promise of a nice set of washi paper, THAT LOOK on chibi-Yoite's face - PRICELESS!

He barely managed to choke back a laugh at the thought, and covered his mouth with his hand just to be sure he remained silent, then watched, waited to see what Yoite would do next.

Yoite was clearly not as amused by this as Raikou, no memories of credit card slogans to make this scene at all amusing, and no idea whether or not he was being watched, yet the very prospect made him uneasy. He was supposed to do the watching, not the other way around. The very fact that someone had been able to get the upper hand this time was only a painful reminder that he hand gone soft and that he needed to re-sharpen his skills as a shinobi ( ... )

It didn’t take long for amusement to fade into a weary resignation as Raikou watched the small teen sit there, statue still through the night. And not long after resignation set in, the jealousy that had so tinged his vision towards this child was forced to clarity in the soft moonlight before it began to fade ( ... )
