[Four has always been the less independent twin of the two of them, and it shows by his general dislike for leaving the house on his own. He knows that he can’t stay inside all the time however, since he’s sure that he’s come pretty close to examining most of the household during his short time here. So he must prepare himself to venture outside ( Read more... )

...Braver than you actually are, huh? You can't!

[Johan probably doesn't mean that in the way his words might suggest, if the big grin on his face is any indication, but feel free to take that totally opposite regardless.]

Why not?

[If Four is going to get an answer like that, he wants to know everything behind it.]

If you say it like "braver than you actually are", then that must mean some people are more or less brave than others, right? I don't believe that for a second!

[Yeah, it's friendship speech time.]

Everybody's capable of it, they just have different ways of doing it. But it's all the same thing. Being brave is all about surpassing your limits, so there's no "less" or "more" about it!

[Four thinks about his family. One is less brave than Nine, and no one is more brave than Seven.

So he's not so sure.]

If everyone is capable of being brave than where do the heroes come from?

Aren't they the ones that are braver than everyone else?

Hehe, no way! Anybody could be a hero if they really wanted to. They've just gotten so good at overcoming their own fears that it seems that way sometimes. But nobody starts that way, right? Before they can be heroes, they have to be people first. And you can't stop being a person even after you become a hero.

...I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're probably already just as brave as any heroes you really look up to. You just have to bring it out!

So if you are not a person you can't be a hero?

[Is Four a person? Well he's not human (or living really), but he can count as a person right? Now he's even less sure.

But wait! Nine is a hero, and so is Seven, so that solves that insecurity. Somewhat.]

Are you brave?

Well, where do you draw the line between a person and... not a person?

--Ehhh, me? Am I brave? Hehehe, well... I think there have been times I could be brave, yeah! There were times I wasn't so brave, too. It's hard to do it all the time, you know? But I think everyone is capable of it when it really counts, and when they have no choice but to push past their fears!

...Hey, are you worried about something?

[Him? Worried about something?

All the time.]

I'm not sure. A person is sometimes defined as a human. Or a living being at least. A person can also defined as someone with characteristics and that make up an individual personality.

So I suppose I can be defined as a person.

[Did that make sense? It barely did to Four so you won't be alone.]

Eh? Humans are just humans. People don't have to be human to count as people, though. I think being a person is way more important than being anything else, isn't it?

If you can think about this kind of thing for yourself like you're doing here, then you must be a person, too. And that means you can definitely do anything you're really determined to do!

Being a person is very important I suppose.

A lot of humans put more stock into being human though.

Why is that? Is it because of pride in your race?

I read much, but I don't always understand.

[He is glad that he took the time to talk to everyone! It has been most enlightening.]
