"Good. See? You should listen to me more and stop trying to do everything on your own."

Reluctantly, she pulled back a bit then and shot him a fiercely unimpressed look, though the effect was ruined rather neatly by her tears. Oz could be the very worst sometimes, trying to hide everything, bury it where no one else could see his pain or his own confusion or anything else - but while it might fool that idiotic Raven, who followed Oz with such demanding devotion, it didn't fool her.

His smile resonated with her, false and broken and yet so much more real because of it - it was reassuring and frustrating when she saw it in place. She much preferred his real smile, even if his heart was troubled. But he was a stubborn one and often lost himself in his thoughts, tried taking the weight of responsibility in ways that weren't really for him to decide.

Which, of course, was why she had to remind him of the obvious so very often - as she was once again.

Leaning forward, eyes heavy lidded, she pressed up to nip him firmly on the corner of his jaw, then murmured, "We're in this together, aren't we? If you'd remember that more often, you'd realize we're all trying to reach the same things so you're not alone. So remember... our contract isn't one-way, you pathetic moron."

Emerald hues widened a touch at her honest words as well as the look she'd given him right then. She'd always seen through him when he put up those instinctual defensive walls so he could hide what he felt from the world around him and now was no different.

Only when Alice moved to nip him on the edge of his jaw did he blink a few times as a blush dusted his cheeks, a hand coming up to touch against that spot lightly. The words she spoke may have even seemed harsh to anyone else, but to him it seemed to have another effect on him.

It was enough to make a soft chuckle leave his lips as a more honest smile started to show on his face. "You're right. I suppose I just let myself get caught up with everything as it happens and I forget everyone's still trying to reach what I'm heading toward. That you're by my side and have always been there to support me like I have for you, Alice."

Oz's voice was quiet but it seemed less somber; more positive, soft and having a wordless determination behind his words. He'd started to regather the pieces he thought he'd lost of himself when he'd let himself drown in the sadness of the events that had been going on back home.

Her smile then is small yet real, because there'd been so much hurts lately, so much loss bonds and loss of focus, yet this - the reminder of this simplex bond that ties them together - is enough that she can step back and nod at the boy. There's a trust, an unshakable faith in him reflected in her gaze before she smirks all to confidently.

And then she reaches out to catch his wrist to pull him towards the door. "Alright! Then lets step forward again, Oz. Even if time here tries to make us stand still, lets step forward and grasp what we want with both hands, okay?"

Of all people.

She had always been there. He felt silly for forgetting this; she'd said she'd always be by his side and now was no different. What she'd done was pull him to his feet so he could walk forwards and keep going, a warmth settling in his chest where a once icy, cold feeling had resided.

His smile grew to become more genuine and bright as he nodded and stepped forwards with her without hesitation. "Yeah! Nothing can stop us if it's the both us reaching for it, right~?"

"Right! Took you long enough!"

She laughed at that and shot him her fiercest, most confident smirk as they headed for the door. It was easier to do, now that he was looking forward and seeing her again, now that he'd acknowledged how he'd been hurting them both with his carelessness.

Now, no matter what lay in wait in the shadows beyond that door, she was confident as ever that she could face it all without fear or doubt dragging her down - all because of the strength he gave her so unconsciously, freed her from the chains of insecurity that lay beneath the surface.

And yet...

She couldn't help the glance back into the room, just a quick flick of violet eyes, searching for that shadow of a man that haunted them both, still.

She just wanted to catch that smile, one more time...
