What was going on here? There were people scattered all over, all of them covered in blood. The dead and the dying. A battlefield? A battle with what? These were all kids, or at least no very old. Kids didn't deserve this.
Then he saw Oz being dragged into the ground by binding chains. Harry couldn't do much for the others, but this one he could still help. He pounded toward Oz, stretching out his hand for the kid when he got close.
He really had been fighting. Those chains that were starting to pull him to a place where he knew the darkness had no end or a return back to this time in his life again. Movement though, that caught his eye over anything else going on.
Someone was here to save him huh?
Eyes turned to the man - one whom he saw in his eyes as a member of Pandora - and instinctively held out his hand to grab the outstretched one trying to reach his own.
Just a bit farther and Harry managed to grab onto Oz's hand. He quickly slid his grip down to fasten on the kid's wrist. Harry grit his teeth and leaned back, trying to pull Oz out. Unfortunately, he was dragged a few feet forward instead.
"Dammit, what the hell is this?" He reached out with his other hand. "Grab on!"
Like he couldn't tell that the things were chains. Duh. It was what was pulling the chains that Harry was worried about. Where he was from, that was all a chain was. A chain.
"Somehow I get the feeling that you don't. Hang on, alright?"
It wasn't much but what else could he say? He'd entirely expected to have went without any resistance, and yet someone stepped forth to help him so easily. He knew there had been Pandora agents somewhere nearby so this wasn't entirely so unexpected, really.
Harry grinned and kept pulling, working on taking a step back when he could. It would really help if he could go up, but there wasn't really anything around that would let him do it.
Nodding softly, he held onto those helping hands keeping him from the darkness and would have likely kicked against whatever had been pulling him down, but it was hard to do when it was nothing tangible he was able to get a footing on.
So for now he'd settle with keeping a firm grip, his body slowly being released by the chains and the darkness trying to swallow him up. Just a little more and he'd be entirely free.
Harry had noticed the improvement and doubled his efforts. They were actually getting somewhere. Only a little bit more and he'd have the kid totally out of whatever mess was going on here.
"Now we're talking."
As long as it didn't get them into a bigger mess they would be good to go.
With that doubled effort, it really wasn't much longer after that he was able to get pulled out entirely from the dark pit he'd once been sinking into. His legs finding shaky purchase on the ground as soon as he was able.
"T-Thank you! I... I thought that nobody was going to come for me.."
Harry helped steady Oz, keeping on hand on his arm just in case he fell a bit later. From what Harry could tell, he wasn't hurt physically. That was good at least. When Oz spoke up though, Harry scowled. What the hell was that supposed to mean?
"...because. I'm partly responsible for a friend's death and i'm becoming a monster..."
Oz was normally such a cheerful person but when he got into his depressive states, they really did hit deep. Recent events that had reflected in his dreams; namely this one were partly a reason for it. Sometimes he blamed himself more often than he should have.
Harry sighed and rubbed at his head. He knew what that felt like.
"Kid, I'm responsible for a lot of my friend's deaths. Maybe if I had done this differently, if I hadn't gotten them involved, the list could go on forever. As for becoming a monster... I've met a hell of a lot of monsters. If you're this upset over it, you're no monster."
A pause lingered after those words and he glanced back up at him with surprise evident clear on his features that was mixed with something akin to a hint of relief. Those words were true when he thought about it. If he really was that monster he'd thought he was becoming, he wouldn't have felt bad about it like this.
"You really think so? I... I just thought people would think of me as a horrible person if they knew what i've done"
"More than just what you've done should be taken into account. A lot of the time it isn't, but it should be."
He's started to understand more now why sometimes you simply can't do that, but it doesn't mean he really has to like it. For all of the people who deserve what they get, he knows there are some out there that didn't deserve it.
