[Just a beat, just a moment to feel the magic curl back into his body as the space around him unfurls, flexes back to within its natural bounds once again as Fai slowly blinks open pale, ice-blue eyes to stare around in muted disbelief.
Standing there with his brown suit jacket hanging open, the matching vest neat and tidy, the blue bow-tie

He didn't ask though, not yet. Instead he simply smiled a bit more and laughed merrily.]
Didn't you hear the leaves, child? He answered me well enough. It's listening that the great tree isn't so good at, I don't think.

Dude I think you've watched Pocahontas way too many times.

[Fai just laughs a bit more at the look before pulling a mock-serious face.]
I mean, you have to recognize that that tree isn't just any old tree. That tree is...ancient.

But like Gilbert's recent escape attempt, and that of so many others, of course, it fails.
That's the part that doesn't surprise the teen.
And he can't help but feel for the man, because it seems obvious that he's used to being able to go where he wants, if Gau's interpreting what he just saw right.
He pokes at the voice button rather than the video simply due to the fact that he's currently rather busy, and a clanging of pots can be heard as the thing flicks on before he speaks.]
Sorry to see that you've been thwarted trying to get out, as well. Are you uninjured, at least, sir?

But this one, he'd said something interesting.
And confirmed that his use of magic had been, apparently, broadcast for all and sundry to see. That could be problematic.
So Fai simple smiles to himself and answers in kind.]
Hyuu~
So I take it I'm not the first person to try to leave, hm? Anyone ever manage it?

[Gau pauses, and because he can't really do his normal bow, he sounds almost apologetic.]
Ah, I'm Gau, by the way. Sorry for not letting you see me, but I'm in the middle of cooking, and I'd just move in and out of the frame anyway.
[He's moving even as he says it, the Hitomi stuffed in the front of his apron moving with him as he stirs a pot and then checks several others.]
There are those who come and go a lot, but it's never by their own will, so I'm not sure how one would go about doing it. But if you'd like to find someone who can give you answers, the shrines might be better than a tree.

[He's heard of those, at least. Kurogane had explained them to him in Shara country, before they'd been separated from the children and thrown into the past. He didn't really get them, but if they had someone like Soseki at one...
He might get enough answers to figure a way out of this place.
So he's careful to let the smile reflect in his voice, all friendly and open as he continues.]
Can you suggest a place to go then? I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with this Kannagara Country.

Clearly short-circuited magic, too, which Matt's never seen in action before.]
You tried to leave this world, didn't you?
[He knows it must have annoyed the guy, but he seems to take it in stride, and Matt's still half-smiling at how cool that looked. He represses the urge to quiz him about it, though. For now.]
Oh, right, I'm Matt. Hi.

[Fai flashes an easy, friendly smile and lifts a hand in slight wave, indulgent almost as his mind raced. Three so far that have contacted him - and each with a different dilect, mannerisms in speech and cadence, tone and inflection...
Which meant, in all probability, all three of them were also travelers.
More and more interesting, really.
So here, have a sheepish laugh and a depreciative grin as he reaches up to rub at the side of his head a bit.]
And yeah, though seems that's not allowed here, hm? I guess this happens a lot in this Kannagara Country, huh?

[He lights a cigarette. So many questions, where can he even start? He doesn't miss that the guy didn't offer his own name. That's OK. Matt understands that quite well.]
Did you have to study casting spells, or is it something you were born with?

[Another bright smile and an easy laugh as Fai shrugs a bit, continues walking towards Hisato. Now...to think of something that would distract this child from his current line of questioning...
Ah, maybe...deflection back to him might work...]
Cigarettes, hm? Those things can kill you, yanno~
[The tone is light, cheerful - clear that he's teasing rather than lecturing, just to see how this kid will react.]

Though, admittedly, he is not sure what to make of the strange glyphs swirling around him, too quickly for him to translate. Is this some form of magic? How interesting.]
Did the Himorogi tree speak to you? I haven't managed to a get a word out of the stubborn thing...

Fai blinks, nonplussed before he chuckles a bit sheepishly and shakes his head. As soon as he gets a chance, he's going to figure out how to delete that video. There has to be a way, somehow.]
Aha...no. I'm afraid I can't really speak to trees. Or well, I can quite well, but I've never had one answer me back.
[ A Beat before he offers a relatively harmless explanation. ]
I was more... how do I say this? Acknowledging the presence of awareness than expecting an answer, really.

[But then, perhaps he shouldn't be assuming that this person is from Earth? He chuckles in faint embarrassment.] Sorry if that was a bit presumptuous. It seems that most people who end up here either come from Earth, or a parallel world equivalent. Though some of us come from entirely different worlds.
[A curious glance. Which are you? Because magic, fascinating as it is in theory, most certainly is not present in the universe from which he comes.]

Though once there was a place that had possessed trees, but I guess that's not quite the same. I take it you're from a different world then most of the others then?
[Magic? What magic? Fai's going to pretend you didn't see that in the small sliver of hope that he could be sidetracked.]

[He couldn't quite resist, and it's obvious he's joking because he can't quite stop snickering. Cheerful fellow, this.]

[There's laughter in his eyes, a clear amusement as he grins.
Though he has to wonder what the situation with that tree really is - people seem to be under the impression that it's abnormal to talk to trees or something...]
Dare I ask how long ago you had to try your luck with a rather stubborn tree?
Reply
Long enough for me t'give up.

[A beat, then a grin.]
I don't know about you, but I know a few people like that.
