[When Ed first takes notice of the Hitomi, he begins turning it over in his hands, inspecting it]
I don't...know these symbols, but I can...read them somehow. [He sounds surprised, and more than a little intrigued. Ed sounds out the word slowly, as if testing it on his own tongue]
Hi...to-mi. Hitomi. So that's this thing's name, huh? But what does it...do?
[Ed turns the device back over and after looking at it for a few more moments, presses the most obvious button on the front. The screen flickers to life, but the look of concentration doesn't break to enjoy his success.]
So are these pictures...the functions? Gotta be, but...if this is some sort of telephone, then...where are the wires? Doesn't have anywhere to connect to.
[Eventually, Ed's fiddled with the functions enough to have a very basic idea of how he's supposed to use it, and decides to try addressing this 'network'.]

If you can, could you...uh, do me a big favor and tell me where I could catch a train back to Dublith? It's kind of really important for me to get back. [Translation: Teacher will kill him if he disappears and she has to go looking]
For that matter, could anyone tell me where I am? 'Himorogi' doesn't sound like anywhere in Amestris.
