We don't even know exactly when he left! [And because that feels like grasping at straws--] People have been gone longer than a few days and come back, he could be reliving a lot at home.
[And that thought doesn't make things better at all.]
[Kanda quite honestly thought Beansprout was just off somewhere doing messiah impression and getting himself killed; now that Lavi mentions it though, it's true that it has been unusually silent. Guess the kid's gone again, then...]
[And yet he still feels that venom which might have faded but haven't disappeared yet, and when he opens his mouth it's to say So all the Noah are gone now, good fucking riddance, but something stops him. Maybe it's just tact towards Lavi and Lenalee who might also see this, though.]
Tch, don't be a mourny lump of shit. It took a week last time, didn't it.
[That's a Kanda equivalent of comfort, maybe? Somehow.]
[Mourny lump of shit? What kind of way is that to put it, Yu? Really...]
But that time was different.
[Allen had died back then, they were expecting him to come back no matter how long it took. Wasn't he still on the Hitomi then, too...? It's not the same.]
[No, he wasn't, at least not as far as Kanda remembers, not that he actually checked or anything - besides, for someone who knows Sprout as well as he does, Lavi seems terribly distanced from the thought he might have, in fact, died again. In some place nobody else saw. He's perfectly capable of it, after all, like most dogs that bugger off to die alo-- talking about dogs, he doesn't remember seeing two-spots for a while now, either. Strange.]
My best friend's been gone twice. For almost two weeks the first time, then for only three days.
[And they were clearly different versions, or at least from wildly different timelines, which Matt supposes comes out to the same thing. He doesn't think how much time passed here had anything to do with that, though, either as cause or effect.]

Seems like it.

[A sip and his expression turns even more flat]
How is Lady Lenalee?

But he doesn't answer that part.]
Fine.
[For now.]

I think it's a little early to say something like that.
[Every word accusing.]

He sighs, shakes his head and turns back to the screen.]
Well, I'm not so sure about that.

Is there a way to know when someone has disappeared instead of...
[There's a pause, because Gai doesn't really want to suggest this, but he's got to ask if he's going to learn.]
Instead of being caught up in the attacks and chaos?

[He looks a bit surprised by this, and Gai starts scrolling through the list, looking and reading.]
You are right! That is very handy! Thank you!
[And then Gai sobers up.]
I am sorry for your loss, though. It would be hard to not have the people that matter to you.

Thanks. But we'll manage.

I'm not deciding, just preparing for it.
