Part 1, for those interested, and here's part 2 -
Empire's 500 Greatest Movies Of All Time (Part 2: 400-301)
400. The Incredibles - Funny, witty and always enjoyable. Not as great as the studio's other work, but still good.
399. Greed
398. Killer of Sheep
397. Night of the Living Dead
396. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - I liked this heaps, and keep meaning to circle 'round and do some fic for it.
395. Casino
394. Cloverfield - I do mean to see this eventually.
393. Garden State
392. Paris, Texas
391. Mulholland Drive - this movie made no fucking sense. I watched it twice, thinking that the second viewing would make it a little more accessible but - nope, nothing, nada. Pretty, but, to my understanding of it anyway, inaccessible.
390. 2 Days in Paris
389. Election
388. The English Patient - oh, this is lovely and sweet and sad.
387. Rain Man
386. The Great Silence
385. Ace in the Hole
384. The Shop Around the Corner
383. Serenity - explosions! River with an axe! But hardly any Shepherd Book. I saw this in the previes, with Joss Whedon and Summer Glau in attendance, holding a Q&A afterwards. I asked Joss about his promise that the movie would tell us everything about all those questions we had - well, what about my million+ questions about Book? Ah, yes, that, he said. "I lied." Hmpf.
382. Cache
381. Monty Python and the Holy Grail - What can I saw, it's Monty Python. Let us not go to Camelot, it is a silly place.
380. Children of Men - fab idea, and another Cuaron film that makes me v. happy indeed.
379. Ratatouille
378. The Goonies - a staple of the 80s and everyone's childhood.
377. Mean Streets
376. Zodiac
375. Four Weddings and a Funeral - fuck fuck fuckety fuck fuck. Of course. But Andy McDowell is unbearable in this.
374. Hot Fuzz - yay for Sergeant Angel! I love this movie. The fic it is really weird, though, it's full of this BDSM, heavy non-con stuff. I don't get it. What about this movie screams whips and chains, precisely?
373. Wall-E - as
queenspanky pointed out, this should be used as depression medication. Made of joy.
372. Army of Darkness - I haven't seen this all the way through, I don't think, but I really should Bruce Campbell and a chiansaw, what's not to like?
371. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl - the original and still the best. Made me love Captain Jack something fierce, and the stuffy Commodore, too. I always thought Will was a bit of a drip, though.
370. Rocky - uh, I must have seen the original at some point. My dad likes these movies. Not that I could necessarily distinguish it from the sequels, of course.
369. The Breakfast Club - I hadn't seen this until a couple of years ago, when
athena25 insisted I remedy that lack. And it's awesome. Much love for Judd Nelson. I keep meaning to write some Bender fic, but haven't got around to it yet...
368. Airplane! - again, one of my dad's movies, and possibly my brother's.
367. Cabaret
366. Predator
365. The Bourne Identity
364. Natural Born Killers
363. Good Morning Vietnam - I love this movie, one of the few war movies I really find enjoyable. I think the soundtrack is rocking as well.
362. The Elephant Man
361. Clerks - Why yes, I do own the ultra-special 10th anniversary edition, and it is fabulous. Dante/Randal makes me happy.
360. The Return
359. The Lady Eve
358. Russian Ark - still have only seen half of this, 'cause I wasn't in the mood the last time I tried to watch it. Must sit down and do a proper watch of it soon.
357. The Long Goodbye
356. Napoleon
355. Sunshine - seen it, loved it, wrote fic for it.
354. Un Chien Andalou
353. Bugsy Malone
352. Unfaithfully Yours
351. Zulu
350. Planet of the Apes - seen the remake - some idiot made me go - but not the original.
349. Arthur
348. Au Hasard Balthazar
347. All About Eve - I really should sit and watch this movie, I bought it with the express intention of watching it that night, but I never got around to it. And it's supposed to be so good, as well.
346. Leave Her To Heaven
345. Fatal Attraction
344. The Last Waltz
343. Monsters, Inc. - Boo makes me happy, very happy indeed.
342. The Gold Rush
341. The Passanger
340. High and Low
339. Spirited Away - of course.
338. Jules Et Jim
337. 300
336. Titanic - Er, I actually really liked this when I saw it at the cinema. It was back when Leonardo di Caprio was all the rage, and I always loved Kate Winslet.
335. The Seventh Seal
334. The Magnificent Ambersons
333. Grease - of course, film and show, too.
332. The Sixth Sense - yes. But does anyone ever rewatch this? That's the problem with Shamlyan films.
331. The Green Mile
330. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith - yup. My brother would have insisted. But when, uh, when did Lucas decide to go for the incest angle? I'm just curious.
329. The Lives of Others - I love this movie. It's so dark and depressing and strangely uplifting at the same time. It made me cry buckets.
328. The Truman Show - really nicely done. It's such a shame that Jim Carey doesn't do more serious roles like this.
327. The Nightmare Before Christmas - Is this Tim Burton? If not, it should be.
326. Out of Sight - Am I the only person who found this dull? Clooney and Lopez didn't have much chemistry for me.
325. Kill Bill Vol. I - made of awesome, and heaps better than Vol. 2, in no small part due to Lucy Liu being made of awesomecakes. I love that she apologises for having doubted that it's a Hanza sword.
324. Lone Star
323. The Last Seduction
322. Aladdin - um, yeah, I saw it am the cinema when I was, uh, 10? Maybe. And was in love with Aladdin, of course.
321. Funny Face - oh, Audrey, you are so beautiful.
320. Braveheart - my brother loves this movie. And, uh, if it wasn't for Mel Gibson's atrocious accent, it would be better. But the queen in it is spiffy, and I had fun with the historical inaccuracies. (William Wallace? Was a bloody lord.)
319. The Lion King - OK, yes, I love this movie, who doesn't? The songs, the baby lion cub, the random crazy side-kicks - it works for me.
318. Rebecca
317. Midnight Run
316. Trainspotting - of course i've been it, I lived in Edinburgh, Urgh, that baby's head turning gave me nightmares.
315. Sense and Sensibility - I'm so glad this is on here! A mile better than any other movie adaptation of Austen (I'm not counting the BBC mini-series of Pride and Prejudice, of course) and has Alan Rickman in a leading man position. Also has Greg Wise, Bedlam alumni, in there, and, of course, Kate Winslet, whom I adore.
314. Sweet Smell of Success
313. Battleship Potemkin
312. Suspiria
311. American History X - a good movie, but a hard one.
310. Gremlins - 80s fun.
309. Transformers - I had to give this one two goes, as I got bored halfway through. Not that Shia Le Boeuf and Megan Fox (or Mega-Fox, as everyone's taken to calling her) weren't diverting, but I was never into Transformers as a kid, so had no interest in them when they were onscreen.
308. The Terminator - Speaking of having nightmares, I saw this when I was about 7 or 8, back in Bulgaria. There were no ratings on movies there during Communism, of course, so my parents would smuggle through tapes from the West and would watch them before us kids did to make sure they were ok. But this tape was brought across by my parents' friends, and so we all sat down to watch it, no idea what it was about. Well, my brother was too little to understand and fell asleep and had no problems. I, of course, couldn't sleep for weeks, wit that bloody skeleton coming out of the flames. Ick.
307. Midnight Cowboy
306. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - All the Indiana Jones movies make me happy for different reasons. This one makes me happy because of Sean Connery, and because of young Indiana (it's why I loved the tv series, too).
305. The Prestige - very clever film, but, again, I felt it lacking in heart.
304. Radio Days
303. Together
302. The Best Years of Our Lives
301. Love and Death
So, that's 41/100. I hadn't even heard of many of the above.
