I really should sleep, but I understand it's like the 4th of July back home, and being the APUSH otaku that I am (as Alz would put it), I can't let it go by without being like ZOMG AMERICA'S BIRTHDAY!!!1!!11!!!1!
Unfortunately, July 4th passed me by over here in Taiwan without my really noticing. I blame this on the massive amounts of confusion involved in my keeping track of time in my head. I'm constantly converting from Taiwan time back to West Coast time, which is made more difficult because my roommate Vivian is from Dallas, TX and so her "home time" is like 3 hours ahead of mine. We always forget this, which causes conversations like:
Me: I need to call home because I HAVE NO FREAKING ANKLES because they're all swollen, but it's too early in the morning to call!
Vivian: It's not that early! It's like 9am!
Me: Wait, WHAT??? IT IS???
Vivian: Yea--oh wait, you're in a different time zone.
Me: ...yeah...California time.
Vivian: Okay, yeah, it's too early.
Me: It's like 6am.
Hour time aside, this also messes with my sense of like calendar time. Like my computer/igoogle and stuff is all still on CA time because I want somewhere that has the exact time it is at home, but that also means when I look at my igoogle calendar, it'll be the day I just had just beginning in CA. So like it's already July 5th hereabouts people, and I just called home and it's like 10am on July 4th.
CONFUSING.
That's all. I should go to sleep because I'm feeling hungry and also because I'm taking the train to Kaoshiung tomorrow and thus need to get up early. Though not as early as I've been getting up for work. One of the girls' coworkers is taking us there; THEY ARE SO NICE.
So Happy Fourth to my US friends. Set off some fireworks for me. I'll be eating a mountain of mango shaved ice. Actual update of my Taiwan life later-soon; I PROMISE.
