Yo, from the other side of the Pacific!
Hello friends! I AM ALIVE, ZOMG. I just got internet like 1 hour ago and have been going crazy trying to check everything. Also, my internet cord (which I just got like 10 minutes before I got internet) is too short, but I'm using it already so I think I have to deal with it. OH WELL. I'll live.
The reason why I have not been in contact is because I've had multiple issues with my phone SIM card stuff and also getting internet. It has been a trial. However, I have it now and will be updating. I have so much to post and tons of pictures, but I'm too tired right now to do it. Also, like I said, I just got internet back, so I'm like checking everything and downloading things. Speaking of which, I can't seem to torrent in the dorms here, WTF! This complicates my life. However, as my roommate has reminded me, be grateful that you even have internet.
So currently, I am being grateful.
Quick update though is that orientation was mostly great. I loved my group members, some of whom were fellow Berkeley kids (Go Bears!). I am, however, dead tired. I got off the plane at the ass crack of dawn in Taiwan, went carousing around for 4 days (and only got like 6 hours of sleep on average those 3 nights out), and then I started working on Monday. These are full work days, friends, and since I've basically had no real time to recuperate, I tire out easily. More on all that later though.
Suffice to say, I'm mostly settled into the dorms at Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan. The people I'm digging stuff up with are nice, my new roommate is nice (it's weird that it's not Michelle!), and I have air conditioning at work and in my dorms. EVERYTHING IS THEREFORE GOOD.
Other things to note: it's hot and humid as expected but not as much as expected. I haven't gotten eaten by bugs, but my first night in Tainan, I got bitten ON MY FACE. These bugs are VICIOUS. Yeah, I've got 3 bug bites on my face. WTF. Also, I discovered today that my ankles are swollen; I WANT MY ANKLES BACK. T_T
But I have internet. I'm being grateful.
Miss you guys! Will write again soon and will post pictures!!!
P.S. It's currently 11:14pm 7/2/2008 in Taiwan. It's weird being a DAY AHEAD of most of you people. Making calls is...interesting.
