an update on my weekend:
Thursday and Friday were both pretty quiet. Thursday i went to the library and got a bunch of books out for my upcoming papers. it was also my sister's birthday, so i called her and we talked for a little while, which was very nice. i probably miss her the most out of everyone in my family, even though she lives in Seattle, so i wouldn't be seeing her even if i was home. anyway, i really didn't do much more than read and a little bit of work on Friday.
Saturday started out horribly. i woke up at 7:15 because i was going whale watching with Lesley and her parents, who were in town. while i was in the shower, my nose stud fell out and went down the drain before i could turn the water off. so of course i was like, "FUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!" and there was nothing i could do about it. i couldn't go to the piercing place, because i had already paid $90 to go whale watching. needless to say, it was not a pleasant start to the day. but the rest of the day actually ended up great. whale watching was awesome. a couple of them actually got pretty close to the boat, and it was just so amazing to see them blow water from their blow holes, and their humps breaking the surface, and their tails flipping out of the water. we also saw some dolphins. it was just a really fun time. and Lesley's parents were SUPER nice. they insisted on buying me dinner and ice cream. unfortunately we didn't get into the city in time for me to get to the piercing place before it closed. but we had a very nice dinner, and i split a really good bottle of wine with Lesley and her mom. i got carded AGAIN- wtf? do i really look 17?
so today Emily and i went into the city so i could get my nose re-pierced. the appointment was free because The Piercing Shop gives you one free check-up up to 12 weeks after you've gotten a piercing. i just had to pay for the new stud, which was only $15. it's slightly different from the first one- a hooked end so it should be harder for it to fall out, and the gem, rather than just being clear, sort of catches the light and shimmers in different colors. it REALLY HURT, at least as much as the first time and i think more. the hole hadn't closed up, so the guy just had to open it up more. it wasn't the same person who had originally pierced it, and i didn't like this guy as much. anyway, afterwards, i was in desperate need of a pick-me-up (which for me means chocolate- NOT alcohol). Emily and i had already decided to go to a pancake house for lunch. it was a place that she had gone to last week with our friend Angie. it was SO cool. it's a converted church, and it still really looks like a church, except that instead of pews inside there are tables. i got marshmallow cocoa and really decadent chocolate pancakes with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce. it was AMAZING. the service was really slow, but that's not uncommon for restaurants in Australia, because it's not customary to tip your waiter, so they really have no incentive to give speedy service. but it was still a really cool place, and we're definitely going to go back again and bring Lesley with us next time.
and then a little while ago i talked to Scott on the phone, which is always nice. he gave me some very good news. apparently Green Day and U2 are teaming up to record a song together. Scott told me that he'd been telling everyone about it, and no one seems that excited. to all these people i have to ask, ARE YOU CRAZY? it's Green Day! and U2! as i told Scott, that's orgasmic! actually, it's better than sex. in fact here's the equation:
(Green Day + U2) > sex
this might have something to do with the fact that those are my two favorite bands. i practically grew up on U2 (it's my brother Jim's favorite band), and being best friends with Scott kind of necessitates an obsession with Green Day. anyway, i for one was really excited.
so that was my weekend in a nutshell. hope you all had a good one.
