Legion!!!

If you like scary movies, you MUST see this.  I screamed till I had a headache - but I loved almost every minute of it.

I had no idea what this was about - and might have nixed seeing it had I known the religious theme - but the trailer intrigued me.  Since I was in a frighteningly FOUL mood, S thought it'd be a good idea to take me on a movie date (for the first time in about a year and a half, mind you. Yes, we don't get out much).

Surprisingly, Spouse - who seemed to enjoy it - gave it a D, raised to a C+ after I beat him down, but I give it a solid A- (and yes, you have to suspend all logic).  It dropped to an A- only because of the ridiiculous denouement.

S did admit, however, that the scene involving the old lady is perhaps the BEST shock moment ever in film.  The admittedly slow build-up to that scene was for effect, as it turned out - and added to the scariness.  The whole audience clapped at the end of it.  Well, except Spouse.  He does not approve of clapping during movies!

True, Paul Bettany is becoming the Michael Madsen or Harrison Ford of this generation (i.e., recycling the same one-note character over and over), but without him, this movie would have been too campy. Excellent casting.

Veterans Dennis Quaid and Charles S. Dutton (?) are pretty good, as is Tyrese.  Kate Walsh, though extremely grating at first - and shockingly haggard and wrinkly looking considering she's only about 40 - is actually quite good by the end. And I mean "The End." (cue sinister laughter)

The one sour note to the evening was seeing very young children in the audience.  Young as in two or three.  I mean, WTF, if you can't spring for a babysitter, stay home till you get a job!  It's tantamount to child abuse - esp. in this one, given the grewsome** and gratuitous violence. No wonder some kids today are so messed up!  I admit I had wanted to invite my niece and nephew (bro' said NO), but they are mature for their ages (12 and 14).  I'm really, really glad my brother vetoed it, as it turned out.  No way is it fit for anyone under 18.

**I'll never spell this gruesome again, even if non-Scrabblers think I'm a big dope for "misspelling" it..
