Minnesota State Fair, Day 1 (of 3)
w/ my friend Chi:
- Falaffel on a Stick
Meh, it was what it was.
- Big Fat Bacon (foot-long thick-cut bacon on a stick dipped in maple syrup)
If you're the type that'll wipe your bacon around your plate after eating pancakes, this is for you. Of course, it is a LOOOOT of bacon. I'm still tasting it.
- Apple Cider
From the apple grower's booth at the Ag-Hort building. Faaantastic, and only a buck. You know it's good apple cider when you can't see through it.
- Jerk Chicken Legs
From West Indies Soul. It's a tradition for me for three or four years running. Fresh chicken, on the bone, and the kind of spices that make your lips burn for ten minutes afterwards. Note to those who have have had it before: They've been moved from the Food Building to the International Bazaar.
If you haven't eaten there before, DO. They also have cheesy grits this year, and their sweet potato pie is the best at the Fair.
- Sweet Martha's Cookies
Well, duuuuuh. If you're a Minnesotan, there are four things at the State Fair that line up thick and deep: Cheese Curds, French Fries, Corn on the Cob, and Sweet Martha's. Bought a bucket, it'll last me for a week. Brought it to:
- All You Can Drink Milk Booth
Another duh. $1 gets you all the milk (white or chocolate) that you can drink. A necessary feature for Sweet Martha's, Fudge Puppies, or Deep Fried Candy Bars.
