"Middle Finger to Predatory DLC (secret wink to crippled used game sales)"

Nov 10, 2014 10:48

As I said in my comment over there in owsf2000's LJ, I'm just going to put up a link here to his post and just say THIS.

DLC has indeed simply become yet another form of DRM. That, more than any other consideration, is why it's so prevalent these days, even and especially when it's "free." (And of course the comment section under the article is filled with all the banal, asinine, mindless "Free? Sign me the fuck up! This is awesome!" type of comments that you'd expect.)

And the whole "it isn't finished yet" bullshit excuse for DLC like this? When your fucking base game itself "isn't finished yet," using that as an excuse for why you are making DLC at the same time flies about as well as a lead balloon.

(Yes, I realize that saying "THIS" and then writing a bunch of stuff after that kind of negates the purpose of just saying "THIS" but whatever. ¬_¬)

drm, game industry stuff (2014), games (2014), dlc
