"Xbox One to perform online checks every 24 hours, every hour if playing on separate console"

Jun 06, 2013 17:58

We already knew about the daily phone home requirement, but apparently if you're playing on someone else's console, the phone home interval is reduced to one hour. And if it can't connect, well, it seems you're just SOL. They may as well have just gone ahead and made it always online. The difference between that and what they're doing here is minimal at best anyway.

As I've said before, I wholeheartedly hope that this console fails utterly, but I fear that it won't.

(EDIT)

Also, this.

"Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once."

"In our role as a game publisher, Microsoft Studios will enable you to give your games to friends or trade in your Xbox One games at participating retailers. Third party publishers may opt in or out of supporting game resale and may set up business terms or transfer fees with retailers. Microsoft does not receive any compensation as part of this. In addition, third party publishers can enable you to give games to friends. Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners." (emphasis mine, of course)

So, if the publisher of any given game decides that they don't want to opt in to this thing that the X-bone "enables" them to do (and I'm calling it now that more are going to opt out than opt in), you're just screwed as far as any of that stuff goes. And regardless, if you give the game to a friend and then they want to give it to someone else later, tough shit, I guess.

Yeah, the X-bone can go suck a fat, spiked dick.
