Ripples

Everything you do results in ripples that flow out from you and touch everyone within your range. You may not even know who or what they touch, but their existence is subtly changed just by your being. It's impossible to take a breath, buy some food, do some work or otherwise be that doesn't affect someone. Even if no one is around, what you do leaves marks.. ripples.. It is both an amazingly frightening consideration, but also one of amazing comfort as well. It means that no matter what happens, you are never truly alone. You never have a time where you don't "mean" something.

The above is fairly well known, and people have talked quite often about both the mundane and amazing aspects of that realization. The part many fail to move forward on is the fact that as humans, we purposely send out ripples so that we can be a part of the return. We thrive off of the ripples that bounce off of those people, places, animals and things that send a responding ripple back to us. It is our connection to the world and our sounding board, showing us both that we are both alive and meaningful in the grand scheme of things. We live for reaction because reaction defines our impact.

No person exists, no matter for how short of time, and does not leave a ripple in this world. And even if they are not there to catch the responding ripple, they have left ripple and changed the world forever. Life is funny that way... We spend most of our lives attempting to leave a mark, when just by being we already are the mark we leave on the world.
