Before the magic fades

Just got back in from Avatar.

Five minutes into the film and I could already tell you how it was going to end. Maybe not because it's predictable (though it might be,) but because I wrote the story not six months ago in Shades of Grey. Some of you may have read it (most haven't) but it's a theme I hold very close to my heart.

They did it justice. No, not just justice, they did it beautifully. Even Lord of the Rings, which I label my favorite movie (taken as a whole) had parts that I could definitively say were weak. Not so Avatar, at least, not in the afterglow of its atmospheric mastery. I'm sure tomorrow I'll be able to remember a scene I thought was awkward, or a week from now I'll pick on a character I thought was superfluous to the story, but not now. Right now, I'm in the grip of the best post-movie bliss I've experienced since I walked out of the theatre from The Matrix.

If you haven't seen Avatar yet, go see it. If you've seen it at home on a ripped copy, go throw your money at the box office. If you've seen it in the theatre but not in 3d, then there's still time to go back. If you've already seen it, I know you have friends who haven't, and it's a great excuse to go back. Support this movie, no matter what your moviegoing habits are like, because I want Hollywood to know that this film was worth it.

Phew. I'll look back on this in a few days and think I went overboard, I'm sure, but it's 1:45 in the morning after the best movie experience I've had since I was a teenager. I hope you can forgive a bit of enthusiasm.

Oh, and I call Rule 34 on this movie.

All of it.
