Atelier Rorona ~ロロナのアトリエ~

I suddenly felt like I really wanted a PS3 RPG. Made by the same people who did Mana Khemia and Atelier Iris (sp), it has all the features common to their games. A complicated item creation system (which you have to use because it's part of the story), simplistic storyline and premise, and cute fully-voiced dialog. The designs are simliar too.

Err, the fact that it's in Japanese has been the reason why I've been reluctant to say much, since it takes up most of my brain to play the game, not to mention keep track of all the ingredients and things that I don't recognize at all (it doesn't help that I've never played any of their other games -- my brother did).

My brother said that having a simplistic battle system is a common feature in their games, and really, this one is so simple that it can get kind of difficult. There is no mp bar -- all attacks take hp to use. I don't really get how the levelling up for attacks work...

Anyway, the basic premise is that Rorona takes up the alchemy shop after her lazy master ditches her when their license becomes under question. She has three years to learn alchemy (since the master didn't teach her anything at all) and turn the shop around.

I can't say much else about the game (explaining the item creation system takes too long), since it's best if someone just plays it. Or plays Mana Khemia 2, which is out in English (PS2), since that'll give a similar idea.

If you're not into RPGs, I wouldn't suggest this game. It's item creation and dialog.
