Book: Haze

Another of L.E. Modesitt Jr.'s sci-fi books. As books go, this one is more straight-forward... but perhaps that's only because I read a bunch of the others. None of these books ever claimed to be in the same universe, but it'd be interesting if it was.

Anyway, it depicts the effects of war, culture shock, and when taken in context that the other books might possibly be in the same universe, information control. The economic controls are interesting as both cultures are, in many ways, vastly different from our own. It's an interesting highlight on our own cultural attitudes and ignorance of others.

The main character's attitude is of a more pragmatic sort (not all of them are, just most of them, with some inclination or another) with a "that's how things are" kind of viewpoint, although he does have his objections.

Whereas Adiamante can be downright depressing, this book is more on the positive side.
