Well I got a new internship today, I'm going to be working at a studio called Music Creek Recording over the next few years if all goes well. I'll just be doing stuff like pro tools work, session set up, board reset and simple little stuff like that. It may turn into a paid internship eventually or if all goes well a part time job. They have a tracking/ mixing studio, an editing lab (the most likely place I would work first) and are in the process of building a new mixing studio (probally the last thing I would wind up doing).
Now back to the board, I am very excited because one of my dreams since I've started working in audio has been to work on or near a Neve console or an SSL console. Well this studio has both. Today I got to reset the Neve console which is in Studio A, the tracking and mixing studio. It was very cool but way more complex then anything I have ever experienced. It's all stuff I've used but they have a ton of shit piled into on console. 64 track -/+ summer, Gain, Gate/Expander/Compressor, Extensive aux sends(8 plus a pan switch and pre/post switch), Fully parametric EQ, Buss routing, Mute Automation, Flying Fader automation and VCAs. All crammed into one beached wale of a console. The thing is absolutley gorgeus and in just as good condition as the day it was made (1988). Studio B, the mixing room, is going to have a 60 channel SSL with a more extensive mixing set up then Studio A. This is a studio the calbre of a upper class studio in LA, New York, Chicago, Nashville ect.
Anyway I'm fucking excited about that and I'm going to be spending next Tuesday, Wedsday and Thursday in a studio Called Firebrand recording a friends band called the Ceramic Clowns. Not quite as neat of a studio but pretty nice just the same and half the cost.
Peace,
Kyle
