I am mentally going over trips that I've taken this year, and part of my brain is going, "Man, I wish I'd done more when I was in New York City a few weeks ago." To which the rest of my brain is going, "Wait, are you forgetting how utterly exhausted you were? Not to mention how blasted cold it was?" Then the first part answers, "Oh, yeah." "Plus," the rest of my brain finishes, "the wedding was awesome. Epic, even. It was a good trip."
Someday, though, I will get to NYC when it's not winter (or late fall) and I'll wander around more of Central Park (safely!) and I'll see the Cloisters and some of the other museums that I haven't gotten to yet. I'll revisit the Met, too, and maybe actually explore around Chinatown, something we didn't really have time to do three weeks ago even though we were staying in Chinatown.
It's been a great year for traveling. I know that I'm very, very lucky to be able to take so many trips. After having never been farther west than Chicago, I managed to make it to California twice in the span of four months! Both LA and San Francisco were tons of fun, and looking at the pictures of greenery and beaches are going to help me a lot during the winter. (Trust me, they're helping already.) I give a slight edge to LA. It was intense, but in a really good way. We saw and did a ton, and so much of it was completely new to me. I'm getting a lot better at doing the activity-filled shorter trips.
I finally got to Denver, too. It only took me five years after Greg finished grad school. ^^; We did brief stops in Denver to bookend the trip, and spent most of it out in the Rockies. I discovered that no, I will not get tired of taking pictures of mountains. I wouldn't want to go there any time but summer, though. There was mention of leaves starting to change at the end of August! But I am having fun looking at winter photos of the places we visited. Again, so much to do; I wish we'd had a day more in Denver, but I'm sure I'll get back at some point. (Hopefully not when it's 94 degrees.)
I'm off for the week between Christmas and New Year's. I never get nearly as much done or visited or watched or played over the break as I think I'm going to, but I'm hoping to do some local exploring. Sometimes, I find myself thinking longingly of the bakery in LA's Little Tokyo where we got breakfast several mornings. I'm hoping to visit some local Korean bakeries that serve similar treats. (Wii Fit is so not going to be happy with me these next couple of weeks. ;p) Then for New Year's we'll be heading down to Williamsburg for a few days with Greg's mom. There will still be Christmas decorations up and I'm really looking forward to that.
Coming up in 2011, we'll be heading up to visit
capfox at some point. I'd like to make it back to Chicago to visit friends out there again. Unfortunately, work might rein in some of my plans. I've been really fortunate to pretty much have no problems being able to take time off whenever I wanted in previous years, but things are going to be very intense, and sadly not in an awesome weekend tour kind of way. Still, if it means shorter breaks instead of long periods away, I'm good for it.
But my very next trip? Stopping by my parents' place after work today for some fresh-baked Christmas cookies. ^_^
