A Day in the Life of...

So i finally got around to taking my camera out on the boat with me so i could show u guys what its like out on the boat...

This trip took us through Active Pass which runs between Galiano Island and Mayne Island...its my favorite route cuz the scenery is so beautiful here.  We got word that the whales were down at the Pender Islands so we made our way down there...

There are always loads of water taxis that go between the islands but the best is when we ride behind a Victoria bound BC Ferry and ride the waves they make!

We found the whales right where they were supposed to be...they spent a good part of the time hunting for salmon and being kinda lame but after a while they grouped up again and were socializing (aka. partying) and here's what that looks like...

This female did a HUGE breach...needless to say the splash was pretty big! It was hard to identify which pod(s) we were looking at until i spotted...

RUFFLES! he's pretty much the only whale i can 100% identify and thats only because his dorsal fin is over 6ft. tall and is all bent out of shape....he's the grandpa of J-pod and kinda a grumpy old fart

Victoria Whale Watch was out today in their giant boat...it looks too packed on there...i prefer our smaller boats even if it does mean a bumpy ride sometimes (like today for example)....and there's Mt. Baker in the distance.

It was a perfect ending to the afternoon when two females porpoised right next our boat! They had just done a dual spyhop but i didnt catch it on film cuz i was loading my camera....grrr...oh well!

Now its time to go home for a nap cuz its a long day out on the water...later gators!
