I mentioned that Lancashire won the County Championship last month...
My councillor got me an invite to the civic reception at Manchester Town Hall tonight.
The main inscription, from memory, says "The Lord's Taverners ECB Trophy for the First-Class County Championship". It's got a plaque on the front with the sponsors' name, but probably they change that when there's a new sponsor. And here's the important bit:
It was a slightly weird evening, because two of my worlds - cricket and politics - collided in one room, and in between the familiar faces I kept seeing semi-familiar ones and having to think which world they came from. Nice speeches during which the Lancashire chairman acknowledged the support of Manchester City Council in recent planning struggles, despite actually being based on Trafford territory. Alan the scorer says they're off to Buckingham Palace on Thursday.
And since I was in my beautiful Town Hall with a camera in my hand...
