Happy St Patrick's Day, everybody...
It does! I can crosspost to kalypso_v at Live Journal, Greatest Journal and Insane Journal. Many thanks to the several people I don't know at all who have explained how to do this, viz
helkamaria,
snapetoy and
stoney321.
Since I've just had two requests for an explanation, I'll attempt to give one - it's essentially drawn from
Snapetoy's tutorial, but I've incorporated a tip from
stoney321 in the comments there as it seemed to get me round the error message I got at first. If my version doesn't work, let me know, and try the originals...
Cross-posting with Semagic
First, download a recent version of Semagic. I did this a few months ago after hearing it enabled cross-posting, but gave up on using it when the instructions said something on the lines of "you can't crosspost to journals on different servers, well actually you can, but we aren't supposed to tell you about that". So I can't remember where I got it (possibly
here) or how straightforward it was to install, but evidently I managed it so I'm sure any of you can.
Once you've got Semagic up and running:
1. Log out of Semagic
2. At the login screen, type "username lj" in the username field.
3. Type your LJ password in the password field, but don't hit enter or click Login yet.
4. Tick both the boxes for Remember Password and Auto-Login.
5. Click the File menu, and then Server settings.
6. Make sure www.livejournal.com is selected as the server, but change the username back to plain "username", NOT "username lj". Click OK.
7. Click Login.
Repeat steps 1 - 7 with your other journals, replacing "username lj" with "username gj", "username ij", or whatever, and changing the Server settings to www.greatestjournal.com, www.insanejournal.com, or whatever.
After logging in to any of the journals you want to post to, click on the Journal menu, select "post to multiple journals", and tick the journals to which you want to post.
(Incidentally, I originally read
snapetoy's tutorial as implying this works only if you're using the same name across different journals, but I've checked courtesy of my friend
jarriere and it isn't so.)
