React-o-matic: SPN 5.4

The father-in-law finally cracked and bought this off iTunes since the CW still hadn't uploaded it to their streaming website as of Monday afternoon. *shakes fist* Why does the one show I really care about staying current with have to be on the one major network that can't seem to get their episode streaming figured out? They finally started using a player that actually worked this season, but that doesn't do me much good if they never give me an episode to watch with it! *is cranky*

Anyway.

Dad's opinion is that this is the best episode of Supernatural ever. I guess it's no secret where Mr. Bill gets his taste for Orwell and doomy, pessimistic sci-fi. *grin*

I can't say this was my favorite episode; y'all know that I come primarily for the snark, the rock music, the blowing stuff up, and most of all the Guy Love Between Two Guys. There wasn't a whole lot of any of those things in this ep, unless you count the blowing stuff up. But I won't argue that it was a good episode in that it was well put-together and involved some fabulous acting. I mean, it's Ben Edlund writing apocafic, I kind of have to like it on those grounds alone.

Mostly I like this ep because I saw it as a long-overdue counterpart to "Mystery Spot": both eps are primarily about what happens when one brother loses the other and how scary he'd be with the brakes off. Well, that's what this ep was about, anyway, and that's what "Mystery Spot" was about after it got done with the hilarious series of creative ways to kill Dean. I thought it was cool we finally got some symmetry, there: the Winchesters are officially a package deal--if we've got one in the world, we need the other.

And that is all the pseudo-thinkiness I have brain-power for, at the moment. Allow me to giggle and weep over a few things:

Yeah, Dean, judging by what I was able to read of my friendslist, I think we're all a bit numb to the world-shattering revelations lately.

Croatoaaaaaan! Not what I expected out of a follow-up to the S2 ep, but I'll take it. I still think the question of why Sam needed to be tested for immunity to a zombifiying virus has not really been properly answered, but it was nice at least to see that they haven't completely forgotten about that ep.

There are no words to express my love for Castiel. "Dean, this isn't funny, the voice says I'm almost out of minutes!" And the waiting on the random street corner for several hours. And fact that he could potentially become the miserable, hollow mortal with the despairing smile that we see in the future. Oh, Cas! *huggles him forever and ever*

Of course, one way in which this episode is inferior to "Mystery Spot" is the distinct lack of hugging at the end. Do I need to start a postcard campaign, here, or what? *grumps*

Bullet-riddled wheelchair: BOBBYNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! *cries*

CHUCK!! Come to my arms, you awesomely hilarious little man, you!

I'll just throw my quarter in the "Jensen Ackles is an awesome actor" bank with everyone else's, shall I?

Hi, Jared as Lucifer! I am a fan! Although, those are some really ugly shoes.

Aaaand the boys are reunited! In the same spot where they pow-wowed over the Colt with John in "Salvation"! That is so awesome. You know what would have been even more awesome? If, after that excellent exchange of apologies and the admission that "we keep each other human" (Hiiii, "Mystery Spot"!) there had been hugging. *beats dead horse for all it's worth*
