As some people knew and a lot didn't, I had bunion surgery on Friday. Since last year I've had more and more foot problems, and it was getting to where a short walk left me in tears.
I went to a new podiatrist, who said that I could probably keep it from getting worse if I was careful, but the only way to improve it was with surgery*. I got on the schedule as soon as I could and then tried to pretend it wasn't happening so as to avoid freaking out about it.
I opted for general anesthesia, I didn't want any awareness at all, thanks. The IV was the most painful part I was awake for, it was also very nightmarish. Waking up was pretty unreal as well.
I could bear weight the day of the surgery, and I can walk, though I am slow and awkward. I had the first follow up on Tuesday, the doctor said it all looked good, and I should have full recovery IF I behave myself. I've stopped taking the prescription pain pills, and am coping well enough just with ibuprofen.
Now I have five and a half weeks of getting better, and trying not to go out of my mind from boredom and inactivity.
*Hallux valgus chevron osteotomy, but don't Google that if you're squeamish. Seriously. Ew.
