She was a birthday present to myself.
She picked me. I'm a sucker for those pet adoption days at the chain pet stores, Ginger is the result of such an event. I went in to browse for a gift for my sisters dog and I got distracted. The giant cage of kittens was too much, I had to stop and look. She was sitting in the bottom of the cage, her siblings being much louder and more active. She still called to me, her face just said, "love me". I asked to see her, the volunteer opened the cage door and Ginger literally flung herself out of the cage and into my arms.
She was my first case of "love at first sight", the moment I felt her in my arms I knew she was mine. She and I have existed together for over five years now. She's an animal, but she's been my best friend. She's the warm comforting body in bed with me. She's what I turn to when I'm sad or hurting. The rough pain days, she sits on my chest and purrs loudly. It helps.
