Well..it could have been better and it could have been worse. Yeah, that's what I said to my mom this morning.
Some good humor, decent plot. I wish it had been a little more paranormal, but seemed more just weird. It didn't really occur to me until afterward how un-paranormal the movie was. OTOH, it was more serious and thought-provoking than, say, Home (which I have a lot of really gross love for). Clearly it didn't bother me, since I didn't really realize it until afterward.
The beard was bad.
Overall good, but just seemed far more cynical than before. I agree. For a movie called "I Want to Believe," there was an awful lot of non-believing. I don't know how it could have been done without the pedophile angle, but I would have liked to see Scully disbelieve Father Joe for other reasons. I think THAT'S what bothered me: since there were no other supernatural elements, and she wrote off the only one, it comes off looking like she has no faith in any of that anymore.
Yeah, the un-paranormal thing wouldn't have been so bad in an episode, but for a movie I felt it just lacked that whole X-Files vibe, y'know.
The pedophile angle felt lacking to me. It almost felt like there was some back story to provoke such a deep reaction from Scully--revelations about a childhood priest, or suspicions about the priests at the hospital or something--that got cut.
I really do think the level of cynicism is reflective of the state of society today, compared to ten or fifteen years ago. It's kind of sad and terrifying all at once--sad that we don't seem to have any sense of wonder or possibility anymore, and terrifying that we don't seem to question anything because we're all so bogged down in petty nonsense. But don't get me started... ;)
You have great pics (and you brought back some cool stuff). It was all I could do to not read your reaction to the X-Files movie (still haven't seen it yet - can't wait). :) Looks like Comicon was made of awesome! ;)
