the wonderful governor of missouri, mr blunt, has created a little task force to investigate the effects of abortion on missouri women. everyone on the task force is anti-choice, last i read only 1 of the members is a medical doctor, & blunt himself said “I certainly would begin with the presumption that abortion has a negative impact on Missouri children, Missouri women, Missouri men, because it's harmful to society.” the task force wants to look at crazy theories like abortions cause women to commit more crimes later in life--i don't even remember the other "studies" mentioned, they were so bizarre. of note, the surgeon general under reagan couldn't prove abortions harm women but i'm sure some asshats from the midwest can. the whole thing really pisses me off.

now a group one of the members is from (the elliot institute in illinois) have proposed a ballot measure in missouri that would ban all abortions except in very specific cases--the "Prevention of Coerced and Unsafe Abortion Act." oh, and if a woman later regrets her choice, she can sue the doctor who gave her the abortion. they have to get a total of 90k signatures from x number of districts to get it on the ballot, etc., etc., etc., but it's ridiculous & scary.

i get emails from planned parenthood about these issues (national & local, obviously) & usually all they ask is for me to send an email to my area's politicians. they have one all typed up & all i have to do is click "send." you can see their current campaigns for the missouri area at http://www.ppaction.org/campaign/TF_disband/alerts. if shit like this pisses you off, go send some politicians some emails & sign up for planned parenthoods' list to easily keep up on these issues. please & thank you.
