Well, for a recent example where you did hopefully see it, PAD has been arguing for years (it seems like it, at least) about anons being cowards. He ladled out that argument generously during the entire nasty Scans Daily affair. The rules at Scans_Daily were amended in light of that - the short version being "people using internet handles are real people and we won't demand a disclosure of full identity of anyone."

During the first Racefail, a whole bunch of the white writers and bloggers and editors in SF&F had their asses out demanding that the people arguing against Elizabeth Bear and her defenders out themselves and disclose their real identities (for some, it was demanding a real first name; for others (HI WILL SHETTERLY AND YOUR FRIENDS) it meant full names and locations. Some people arguing against Bear's position and her helper gnomes were outed and their full names posted on blogs.

So when I saw Slott pull the "I'm an innocent writer being attacked by ANONYMOUS PEOPLE!," I saw red and then felt sick and discouraged that an ostensibly sensible person could be so blind and naive about the internet and so fraught with white male privilege.

Well, to be fair, I think Kelly's been in creator free fall for a while now. Deadpool was his ne plus ultra, methinks.

When I saw the rice 'n beans scene, my mouth dropped open and I literally choked. How can they not see how back it all looks? They really don't understand why people are pissed, do they? The only mitigating factor in this was "Van Lente Rape" making it to Urban Dictionary (and wow, that was fast).

I think Joe Kelly peaked with "Whatever Happened To Truth, Justice, and the American Way" and has been in freefall ever since, personally.

It's actually much worse than you think. Every time Kelly wrote Norah making a racist remark, he had one of the other characters tell her, "Um, wow, what you just said was super-racist," which would have been good, except that he immediately followed it up with Norah getting in the last word by saying, "Tee-hee, I'm not racist, I'm just equally nasty to everyone," which means that Kelly, at least, actually DID know how it sounded, and he DID IT ANYWAY.

The Nu-Spidey characters - the new ones - I find utterly uninteresting. I know I'm not the only one, obviously. Even if I *wanted* to care, I couldn't. They're lifeless, tacked on paper dolls.
