This is from a series of children's books written by Kevin O'Malley and Patrick O'Brien. Patrick O'Brien is also on art duties, and they are beautiful. I'm totally ordering the entire series from Powell's. Because if this is the standard for children's literature today? Hot damn, GOLD.
I would also like to point out that these books have a character named Bloody Bart Scalawag. Every other book on pirates ever? PWNED.
I'm childfree, yet I have the sudden urge to conjoin with a human male and produce some progeny just so I can have an excuse to buy ten copies of each book and roll around in them FOREVER.
