Part of the first chapter of Wide Awake is up. Seriously, go look at the pretteh. You don't even need to read the dialog. I can't wait to see more. I'm so excited about this story. I'm even dropping my normal impatience with webcomics to read this.
Pet tentacle monster for the win! Stabination! I would, however, like to know what shade of purple lipstick she's wearing. Note to the (awesome) creators of Wide Awake: little details, little details.
Speaking of a tsunami of awesome, I'm sad that the Manhunter book died yet another death (after being resurrected twice due to vocal fan outcry), and while the last two issues were very rushed (honestly, it felt a little like Andreyko's self-insert wish fulfillment fantasy), with too many characters and too much thrown into the story while Andreyko frantically tried to wrap things up, the last page made up for almost everything. The story jumps twenty or so years into the future, Kate now has one of those beautiful Susan Sontag white streaks in her hair, a boyfriend that obviously worships her, her snarking has not improved in quality in the least (which is one thing that endears me to her), little Ramsey has grown up to go to film school and be gay with superpowers (the superpowers thing really didn't sit well with me; it would have worked better if he'd had to train and learn the hard way like a normal baseline human), etc., etc., but this last page, OH MY GOD. Totally did not see it coming.
We've had plenty of father and daughter team ups in comics, right? But when was the last time you saw THIS?
Kate and her son:
Mother teaching her son the superhero game. TWO Manhunters for the price of one!
So. Awesome.
Thank you, Mark Andreyko. Thank you.
