Sêníõr Louvres

Jun 16, 2023 20:07

So the Louvres arrived on Thursday, and I just finished putting them on tonight. It took maybe an hour and a half, working very slowly and carefully. And honestly I think it’s been one of the easiest mods to install. No complications, perfectly smoothly, couldn’t’ve hoped for more. Despite the decidedly Mexican Engrish of the enclosed instructions.

In the process I discovered that the buttresses on my car are made of fibreglass rather than the sheet metal I had hoped, or plastic I expected. I don’t really think that matters, just a curiosity. I don’t recall any of my previous cars having fibreglass panels.

It’s dark out, and the dust lies on Minx thickly and unevenly, so I doubt I will get to glamour shots for days, but I am happy.

The Louvres are satin black rather then gloss, so I may consider getting them professionally recoated, but I’ll live with them as they are for a while in daylight and decide. I’m thinking of painting the heads of the bolts holding them on black too. The silver seems a touch industrial compared to the rest of the car.

A lot of small incidental mods to finish, particularly involving wiring for items I have already attached to the car, but nothing remains that will be highly visible. Boot mat, seat lowering brackets, remote window operation. $600 there. The a helmet, driving lessons. Funny that May last year I was debating the Louvres as a final mod, and now they’re done. So much has been achieved and my relationship with money has matured.

I know that I've talked about Minx's "final form" before, and I'm still trying to articulate precisely what I mean by that. There is something decidedly final about adding these louvres. When I first purchased Minx it was on the understanding that it was a trial as opposed to a lifelong commitment, if the car wasn't a fit for me, we'd get rid of it and just be better off for the experience. No surprises that I've long decided to keep it, but something about drilling and tapping out the holes in the fibreglass though was ... permanent. In theory every mod I've done so far could be reversed, or is so minor as to be insignificant, but this is a large and irreversible step, something that pretty much is only going to appeal to me.

[Edit]:To show there was no hard feelings I sent the manufacturer this same picture. And their response was certainly more forthcoming than anything else over the last four months.

ideaen3D: OMG LOOK AMAZING IN THIS RED 😍😍😍, could you send me more pictures 🙏 please? Congratulations 🎉 by your Louvers 🙌🙌
