It's been a week since I bought my membership and so far so good. I went to
p0sterofagirl's gym on Friday for a change and because it's fun to have company! It's a nice, big, open gym which also made it a little intimidating the first time going there. Thankfully, I had someone to show me the ropes (or the treadmill, as the case may be) and I had a nice time.
The one big downside is that it will cost me $2 to use that gym because I've opted out of the "towel service" at my gym. I didn't realize that this was going to pose a problem at other gyms when I asked for this option ($10 less a month afterall) so I was surprised and a bit annoyed that the guy who signed me up didn't mention it. Thankfully, the guy at the desk of
p0sterofagirl's gym let me in without the fee for my first visit.
I didn't work out on the weekend, mainly because I didn't really want to and I feel okay with that. The fact that I went three times last week was a huge accomplishment and the weekend gave me a chance to relax all those muscles that aren't used to moving. There is a really nice gym not too far from my apartment though, so I have the option to go some weekend if I feel so inclined.
Yesterday, I almost wimped out of going to the gym. I kept changing my mind throughout the day and by the end of my shift my energy was pretty low and my head was a little achy. When I walked out of my building after work I was all set to just head straight home... but I turned towards the gym instead. I could see it from the doorway of our office building and my body was saying yes. In my head, I thought "I'll just go for 15 minutes then head home", and that's exactly what I did. It was great! There were no treadmills available because I didn't sign up right when I arrived, so I hopped on an elliptical instead. Holy crap did I ever feel it. I certainly got a good cardio workout! I'm not sure, to be honest, if I could have done more than 15 minutes if I'd wanted to! Well, I probably could have but I'd certainly be feeling it today!
I also popped into the sauna for a few minutes after my workout and shower were done. I haven't been in a sauna in ages and it was really nice. I'm definitely going to do it again!
In other news, I've decided on a goal weight of 126 lbs. At first, I thought I was being too "extreme" but when I look at the BMI tables for my height and my frame (which to the best of my knowledge is average) that weight is right in the middle of the healthy zone. Because that number is only based on the BMI charts, I'm allowing myself some wiggle room, so to speak. If I get down to 135 (for example) and find that I'm feeling healthy and fit, I may just stop there. My goal is more to feel good about myself than reach some arbitrary weight but I figured it would be good to have something to work with.
