on saturday i did the north shore city coastal challenge and it was fantastic! i started at milford beach, the 10km event, and we all had to battle our way through the epic king tide - my shoes will never be the same again - i had a disposable camera for work (i was organising the entries for the event for our work) and somehow i managed to get a few photos despite being up to my head in water! i was Determined. it was exhilarating and exciting and unbelievable. i wouldn't ordinarily leap into raging waves fully clothed and do this for an hour, but i did on saturday. it was rather tiring but so much fun!

i intend to do the kauri run at coromandel later in the year. apparently it's the toughest 25 km run in nz, but for every runner entered they plant a kauri tree, plus you get some socks. it's enough to get me interested.

tomorrow at lunch i am going ot buy some henna and then on the weekend, after buying new running shoes, i will plaster my hair with the strange substance. i am nto sure how it will turn out, or if work will like it, but work is work. hopefully i will get time to - i may want to try out running shoes, however i also want to henna my hair before easter, so i have the leeway of 4 days not at work in case it's a disaster.

I am looking forward to easter - i am going to go tramping. i have a new down jacket with a hood and it is pretty and blue but i haven't had chance to wear it yet, being summer when i bought it. we are going camping, tramping and climbing (provided it's not wet). so exciting. it's in ohakune area. at some point i would like to investigate the uruwhenuas. they sound amazing.
i used the software at work to have a look at contours and land use (all over nz) (it' my job, but also my interest) and it is fascinating. someone in england a 100 years ago decided that a road would be good HERE and never had knowledge of the place, which in one particular current file involves a road going in a straight line ... over impassable forest and sheer cliffs and a river. plus, this road doesn't actually link up to the other potential road. it merely stretches from one side of the peninsula to the other - as in the short narrow parts, not the length. not practical.
