The Big Bang Theory - Approximity by misura. The Big Bang Theory cast. PG.
I will admit that I am a big fan of these stories--apocalyptic, zombies, the like. The idea of having the Big Bang Theory cast deal with something like this--especially when one of them discovered the reason why the world is going to end. I like that it's not overly depressing or overly hopeful in anyway. It's just real--people leave, say their goodbyes and just wait for the inevitable. I like that this was written from Leonard's point of view. Something about it is so pragmatic. In some ways, he realizes maybe he should react one way or the other, but they're all going to die anyway whether he does it or not. I like that he stays with Sheldon and just their connection in general. Sometimes on the show, with all his neuroses, Leonard just deals with Sheldon but they are friends in their own special way.
Castle/White Collar - Five Ways Crime Does Pay by celli. Castle/White Collar casts. Teen and Up.
I love the idea of the Castle crew meeting up with the White Collar crew. Celli captures their voices perfectly. Castle would totally be capture by Neal Caffrey and Burke/Beckett would totally bond over the insanity of their CIs. I love that Alexis/Martha are totally trying to flirt with him and when it's Alexis, Castle plays the dad card. I just love all the scenarios in this. IF ONLY IT COULD REALLY HAPPEN. It sounds like it could be a combination of sheer fun. D: (I mean, they're both New York shows! Ignoring the fact that Castle actually films in LA, but whatever.)
Glee - Sting by abusing_sarcasm. Kurt/Dave. R.
I have to admit, Dave's story on Glee is fascinating (I'm behind this season though so I don't know what may/may not have changed). But I don't know if I'd actually ship Kurt/Dave past fanfiction (this may also be the fact that I love Blaine, but whatever). But that's what fanfiction is for! I like that this takes place in the future--Dave has grown up. He's accepted himself and is a little securer with himself, except then Kurt comes back into his life with all the preconceptions that he had of Dave when they were back in high school. I'm glad Kurt isn't so quick to accept him because that was a lot of shit Dave put him through in McKinley--there's a growth in their relationship. Very slow, but still simmering.
Inception - Half-Way Gone by the_moonmoth. Arthur/girl!Eames. Mature.
The connection between Arthur and Eames in this is what makes it for me. Ignoring the fact that Eames is a girl--because, really, Eames is just Eames, with female bits--the relationship is practically the same. I love Eames' character in this--the way she feels, sees everything and how she just wants to be sure of things. The banter between them is just A+ as always and just. I can't describe how good this is, really. *_______*
Inception - we were once cinema gods part 1, part 2 by gyzym. Arthur/Eames. R.
If you haven't realized yet, I am in love with AUs. There are some that I will always be a fan of, regardless of fandom (sometimes regardless if I've even seen the show/movie/etc or not) and one of them is definitely Hollywood!AUs. I have to admit that I usually find actor x actor, but having producer x actor is a nice change. Also, ever since I started reading Arthur/Eames fics, I've realized that there are a lot of great quality fics in that shipping. This being one of them. I, as usual, love the relationship between Arthur and Eames--their banter is fun, along with the underlying tension between them. I also really love the connection of their respective assistants. They're fabulous and in some ways, more awesome than the main two. :D ♥♥
Inception/(500) Days of Summer - close your eyes, replay these days part 1, part 2, part 3 by mixtapestar. Arthur/Eames. NC-17.
I love when people are able to link actors with previous jobs--in this case, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in both (500) Days of Summer and Inception. The premise of this fic is awesome, the whole world of (500) Days of Summer is just a dream that Arthur is stuck in--a world he created. A world that he's supposed to "vacation" in, so to speak. And you can see why because Tom is definitely a more positive kind of character--more smiles, more romantic notions, with dreams. At least in comparison to Arthur. I like that they made Paul an actual character, not just another projection, and that he ultimately becomes one of Arthur's confidants. The relationship between Arthur/Eames is a little more tenuous in this, or rather it's a lot tenser than I'm used to reading, but seeing that relationship change is fascinating.
Johnny's Jimusho - Troublemaker by still-ciircee. Sho/Nino (Arashi). PG.
Sure, this is old, but there's no time limit to how amusing a fic can be. Sho is God and Nino is Satan, and they have an interesting relationship at best. I find the whole concept seriously amusing and enjoyable, and still-ciircee really makes it work. I enjoyed reading this (and re-reading it as it were in order to write this review), and seeing how Sho's able to deal with this new position. Also, the epilogues are made of serious win. Just saying.
NCIS - readiness and wanting by dress without sleeves. Ziva David. T.
This is possibly one of the best post-Truth or Consequences fics I've read, and it doesn't even really have Tony/Ziva in it--which is usually my biggest NCIS appeal. But really, the recovery that Ziva must've had to go through in order to mentally be better from that whole situation would have been difficult and confusing. And this fic is able to illustrate that without question. Of course, Ziva would try to do it herself. Of course, Gibbs would be there to lend a hand--without saying it out loud because that's just how it is. If Tony/Ziva is my biggest lure to NCIS, Gibbs/Ziva is another because the relationship these two have--not romantically, but Gibbs as her second father (which is illustrated in the most recent NCIS ep actually) is fascinating. You see a bit of that here; it's beautifully written.

This comment fic takes the White Collar plot and uses the NCIS characters in its place--Tony as Neal, Gibbs as Burke. Plus, oh hey, Kate's back! It's short, but absolutely fabulous, seeing the same relationship these characters have in NCIS, just only a little changed by the fact that their roles are completely different. I only wish there was more.
Push - love, love to ease my mind by dress without sleeves. Nick/Cassie. T.
I think I like fic for this movie more than I liked the movie itself. Probably because at least in fic, I can ship Nick/Cassie without being squicked out that Cassie is underage, like she is in the movie. I never did think about what would happen after that movie--other than it kind of set itself up for sequels. Multiple. But in all of them, I will always want Cassie and Nick to end up together because their relationship is hands-down my favorite of this movie. And this fic gets that. It's able to show how Cassie and Nick grow together as they travel the world together--either hiding or helping people. All of it. I love the banter, the teasing, the obvious affection. Also, this line just makes me laugh. "They decide to leave Russia about ten seconds after they get there."
The Hunger Games - To the Victor, the Spoil by annakovsky. Katniss/Haymitch. NC-17.
The AU in this is that Katniss wins. She kills Peeta and she wins. Except, really, when it comes to this world, winning is pretty synonymous with losing and that's how we feel as we read this. It's written from Haymitch's POV and we watch with him as Katniss pretty much self-destructs. Half of this fic is the sex scene between Katniss/Haymitch, but the reason it's not in PWP is that it's more than just sex--or rather, it's supposed to not be since Katniss asks Haymitch to take her virginity instead of some rich pervert who wants her in his bed. The emotions around this scene, before and after, are what bump it up to more just just porn. It's hard not to feel so sad for the situations these characters are in and even the ending isn't some happy ending, just more... endurance.
