Of all the things I thought I'd be reading for BBT, I didn't think it'd be Band AU. And even though it seems completely unlikely, allthingsholy makes it work. Also, I have to mention somewhere that even though I like reading Sheldon/Penny fic, I am a firm believer that on the show, they work so much better as friends. That said, I like this fic because it's fun seeing a different life for the BBT gang. I also just like how Penny once again just falls into their lives and how well she weaves in with them. And just the tension and overall friendship between Sheldon and Penny.
Johnny's Jimusho - Per Ardua, Ad Astra by anamuan. NEWS, KAT-TUN, Arashi, Tackey & Tsubasa, and J-rock which is not Johnny's at all. PG.
First warning, this fic is four parts. Which is why it took me forever to finally get around to reading this fic even though I absolutely adore Nikki's writing. I even saved it onto my Kindle just so I could put the proper amount of time I could to reading this. And man, it was worth it all. One of the most amazing things about this fic is the world Nikki builds--she goes into so much detail about how things work, how things exist, how these people exist and work and survive that it's hard not to fall in love with this universe. Let's not forget that I adore the interactions between NEWS/KAT-TUN. They start out as mini-rivals, but as the story goes on, they're more than that. They become allies and companions as they strive to stay alive while they're being hunted down. The action is ripe and the characters are fun and there's just so much going for this fic. If you have the time to read 30,000+ words of amazing, take the time to read this. You really won't be disappointed, trust me. ♥♥
Johnny's Jimusho - Of Roommates and Mistletoe by krysyuy. Kame/Junno, Nakamaru, Koyama, Aiba, Oguri Shun (KAT-TUN, NEWS, Arashi, and Oguri Shun who is not a Johnny's, lol). R.
I am a sucker for roommates AUs because I'm just fond of the idea of people getting stuck together in close quarters and the possible feelings that could grow out of it. In this case, Kame becomes Junno's newest roommate and it's just fun seeing this assortment of people living together--the stuff they get up to, and cause is just, well, fun.

This is, to put it simply, absolutely adorable. After watching Yamanade (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge), I totally shipped Kame and Oomasa and I don't believe I've actually ever read Kame/Oomasa fic until just now. So absolutely adorable. I can't really say much past that, lol.

It's funny. I am by far not one of Kame's biggest fans, and yet, here are three fics in a row dedicated to Kamenashi and his various shippings. lol (Okay, so I arranged this list in a mild order so that's why it's Kame in a row, but still, that's more than I usually read lol.) Anyway, in this case, reading between the lines is key. I had to go back and re-read sections, re-read the fic as a whole because I swear I kept missing things. And that's the beauty. There's so much underneath the text in Kame/Yamapi's relationship. So much unsaid, so much to intuit. And that's what makes this lovely.
Johnny's Jimusho - What Everyone Does by hurtsville. Yokoyama/Junno (Kanjani8/KAT-TUN). Unrated.
Also quite lovely. I do kind of see Yokoyama as an awkward duckling when it comes to being off camera/off any sort of media. When he's just Yokoyama Yuu, trying to be regular. Except it doesn't work too well because he gets too tense and nervous. And I like how we have Taguchi there to try to help him out. The tension between Yoko/Junno is kind of delicious here and even though we don't see anything actually happen, we have enough to imply otherwise. :D
Johnny's Jimusho - hit this live (say hello with a fist) by tatoeba. Jin with Jin/Yamapi/Ryo!friendship and KAT-TUN (Jin/NEWS/Kanjani8 and KAT-TUN). PG-13.
I've always been a fan of Riha's writing and this is no exception. This starts out rather light-hearted with just Ryo/Jin/Yamapi being themselves. But as it takes place during the time period of when Jin leaves KAT-TUN and goes solo, we see a deeper bond between that friendship. As well as the connection Jin has with KAT-TUN. As far as I'm concerned, real life happened along the same lines because I think KAT-TUN would've had Jin's back, no matter what. even if it meant them going on as 5. And so, I'm glad to see that portrayed on fic. Plus, I just like the ending scene when at the end of all of this craziness, it's just the three friends, lying on a bed together (platonically in this case!), welcoming Jin back home. It's comforting.

First of all, the concept's a little bizarre--I mean, mannequins made to serve as companions? I'm sure we've seen something similar as robots, but here they're mannequins. which only reminds me how Ryo once said his ideal woman would be a mannequin. And go figure he has three. All males, because females are not recommended because of--well, issues dealing with how men can't handle them (and how it's so unfair to have a female companion because guys would forget all about real women). I think what's nice about this is that we see Massu take to Shigemi (yes, Shige's female in this) in a way that he tries to resist. First of all, he's not even supposed to get a female, but due to a mistake, he does and Massu refuses to let them kill her off so he takes Shigemi home. And it's just nice to see their relationship grow and lead to where the end point is. Mildly sad in one respect, but still rather moving.

Holy hell, it's been a long time since I've read this many Johnny's fics, but here we go. Last rec and it's Arashi. What yayahooraywoohoo did was take the Hadashi no Mirai PV and make an AU from it. I mean, it's not that deeply tied to the PV, but it does show up. I just like the way Nino's portrayed. The way he cares deeply for his friends even though he tries to leave them because he thinks at the end, they deserve to do so much better. But what are friends if they're not relentless, lol. It's just nice to see how their bond is captured.
The Hunger Games - Those Who Favor Fire by allthingsholy. Cinna. Teen and Up Audiences.
Cinna. This fic showcases Cinna to no end--his relationships with Haymitch is particularly interesting because it's nice to see how deeply Cinna was tied to the rebellion. lol What I find funny about reccing these fics is that with each one, I make it seem like these new things are canon and no, they're not, but they make you believe they are and that's really what's important here. I liked hearing Cinna's voice; I liked that we got his tie-ins to the capitol; I liked what we got of Cinna/Katniss' relationship because if there's one relationship I loved in The Hunger Games more than Katniss/Peeta, it was Cinna/Katniss.

I think my biggest problem with these rec posts is that I am going to get repetitive. But there's not much I can do to help that since the kind of fic I like, the kind that I would rec are likely going to be near enough the same vein. In this case, mapping out the relationship of a side couple in The Hunger Games. We get to see the the start of Finnick's relationship with the capitol to the year Finnick has to mentor Annie (and Nolan) to after. I really liked this line "...he wants her. And he could probably have her. But there’s really no fun in that." I just liked that little touch--the reminder, if you will, that this is Finnick, the boy turned man that all of the districts and the Capitol fell in love with. And this is the girl he fell for.
The Hunger Games - Twenty-Four Victors, Twenty-Four Tributes: Meet Your Quarter Quell Contestants by aimmyarrowshigh. 24 tributes of the Quarter Quell. PG-13.
I find that I like aimmyarrowshigh more and more with each new fic I read. This one in particular touches on every single one of the tributes--some getting longer sections than others. But even in the short ones, we see insights to these tributes that Collins hadn't touched on enough. These were former victors. They've seen and won these games firsthand--and we see these games, maybe in a few words, maybe in longer. But no matter the length, we grow to care about them. And so, it's kind of with a morbidity that we read these because we know (those who've finished Catching Fire that is) what's going to happen to most of these people. Plus, I have to admit, I like the sections on Peeta and Katniss a lot because they're short, but oh so meaningful. Especially Peeta's. ♥
