Coffee Shop Shuffle
tinyangl, 1389 words
Horikita Maki, Kuroki Meisa, Inoue Mao, Becky x Ninomiya Kazunari, Ohno Satoshi, Matsumoto Jun, Aiba Masaki. Love Shuffle AU, the girls talk out their dates in a cafe.
A/N: This is a prompt given to me by sinonymity: "maki, meisa, mao, becky & nino, ohno, jun, aiba //love shuffle au?" It was longer than the tiny drabbles so it gets its own special post.

Round One:
"Honestly," Becky grouches. "How do you ever deal with him?" She leans her head against her arm, sighing. The four girls are sitting inside a coffee shop--an agreement they made when they started the whole shuffle dating arrangement.

Mao laughs, shaking her head. "I could ask you the same about Ninomiya-kun. He's not exactly the--"

"He's prickly," Becky interjects. "But at least he's not obnoxiously hyper like Aiba-kun. Like, does he ever just want to sit down and relax and have a nice conversation?"

Mao shrugs. "I'm his assistant at a veterinary practice. We shockingly don't sit down and relax that often."

Becky sighs and shakes her head.

"At least yours speaks," Meisa says.

"Ohno-kun just takes some getting used to," Maki interjects.

Meisa raises an eyebrow as she takes a sip of her tea. "There's getting used to, and there's awkward silence, okay?"

Maki frowns. "Well, what did you guys go do?"

"Movie and a dinner."

Maki stifles a laugh. "Are you sure he didn't just sleep during the movie?"

Meisa goes silent. "That--doesn't really make for a good date then. If he didn't want to go to a movie, then he could've just said so. Anyway, how was yours with Jun?"

"It was okay. He's very nice, but he's not exactly my type."

"The quiet ones are?" Meisa says with a slight smirk.

Maki frowns. "Ohno-kun is my friend, and honestly, if you don't like him, you don't have to mock him."

Becky and Mao exchange glances before Becky interjects, "You know, Matsumoto-kun seems like he'd be a good date though."

Maki looks away from Meisa, the slight frown disappearing as she talks about how much of a gentleman Matsumoto Jun is.

Round Two:
"No," is the first thing Meisa says when they gather after their next round of dates.

Becky laughs outright. "I figured that of all of us you would be the one that would like Nino the least."

Meisa's eyebrows knit together. "He seems to mistake charm for arrogance. As though everything that came from his mouth was sheer gold and man, aren't I lucky that he's paying any attention to me?"

Maki stares. "You don't like many people, do you."

"Only those who deserve it."

"And that's not arrogant of you?" Maki snaps.

Meisa's eyes narrow. "You don't like me very much."

"I wouldn't say that," Maki answers. "I just think you jump to conclusions much too quickly."

"How was your date with Ohno-kun?" Mao asks abruptly.

Maki blinks. "It was very nice."

"He didn't fall asleep this time?" Meisa asks, a slight smirk on her lips.

"No, because we went to an art gallery which is one of two things that'll get him excited. He's an artist after all."

"Wait, he's an artist?"

"Yes, which you would know if you actually had talked to him last time." Maki purses her lips.

Meisa laughs. "You have a bit of bite to you, huh? I like that." Maki's expression seems to read "why would I ever want that?"

"I heard from Nino that you threw something at him?" Becky asks.

"What a baby," Meisa snorts. "It was only a book."

"I thought it was a phone book," Becky says.

"Same difference."

This time, Maki laughs. When Meisa exchanges a bemused expression, Maki ducks her head under her arm for a second to collect herself before turning to Mao. "How was your date with Aiba-kun?"

Mao shrugs. "It was okay. We went to the zoo, which is kind of hilarious since it's not like we don't see enough animals in our every day life."

Becky stares. "You guys went to the zoo? That would've been infinitely more interesting than the posh place that Matsumoto-kun decided to take me. I mean, he's nice and polite and oh so hot. He kind of reminds me of a prince, but other than that... We didn't really click."

Meisa laughs. "Jun can be a bit of a priss sometimes."

"Takes one to know one?" Maki says innocently.

Meisa smirks, taking a sip of her drink. "Basically."

Round Three:
"Ohno-kun is rather lovely," Mao says over her orange juice.

Maki smiles brightly. "I'm really glad you think so."

"What did you guys do?" Meisa asks.

"To the seaside. He showed me how to fish and told me about all the different types of fish. It was actually very interesting," Mao answers.

"You had Matsumoto-kun this week, right?" Becky asks Meisa.

"Yeah, but it was rather tame. We've dated before and we know it would never work out, so we kept it simple. We went shopping."

Maki laughs. "Now was it for you or was it for him? Because I wouldn't be surprised if it was for him, really. He seems the type to like shopping."

"Ping-pong. Got it in one. He ended up having loads more bags than I did. It was pretty hilarious." She smiles when she sees Maki give her one back. "And how was your date with Aiba-kun?"

"Rather nice, he took me to a pool hall. He wasn't very good though."

Becky laughs--except it's louder than she expect because a second later, she claps a hand over her mouth. The girls look at her, amused. "Sorry, sorry. But that totally suits him. He doesn't seem to be very good at something like pool."

Mao grins. "He's good at other sports, if it helps."

Becky shrugs, a hint of red on her cheeks. "Not that that matters to me."

"Of course," Mao answers. "You had a date with Ninomiya-kun though?"

"He's an idiot. Since we know each other and would definitely not date, he just took me to his place and we played video games. It was fun, but most definitely not a date."

"I don't know about that," Maki says. "I think that sounds like a rather nice date."

Becky scoffs. "I'll be sure to tell him. You have him last, right?" Maki nods. "I'm sure he'll love the idea of recycling his date plan."

Maki laughs. "Well, I honestly would not mind."

Last Round:
"You know, we've been doing this for weeks and we really should've talked about who our picks might be. What if one guy gets more than one?" Becky says.

The other girls look at each other before they shrug. "We'll get to that when we get to it?" Mao says, a slight hint of hesitation in her voice.

"Aren't we forgetting that the guys have a choice too?"

"Not really," Meisa says, with a wave of her hand. Maki rolls her eyes, but there's a twinkle of laughter in them.

"Anyway, last week. What do we think overall?" Becky asks.

The four of them go silent, exchanging looks before Mao finally says, "I think I really like Matsumoto-kun."

Meisa's face opens up into the biggest grin they've seen on her. "Is that so?"

Mao goes bright red. "It was just--It was kind of an amazing date. He--he---it was a photoshoot. He photographed me, and we talked and we--It was just magical."

Meisa blinks. "He actually took you to his studio? Well, that's definitely a first."

Maki laughs. "That's amazing, Mao-chan. I'm happy for you."

"Nobody minds?" Mao asks, eyes wider than normal. They shake their heads.

"Honestly," Becky pipes up, "I wouldn't mind going on another date with Aiba-kun."

Meisa laughs, shaking her head. "Didn't you hate him at the beginning?"

"Not hate. Just, he was overwhelming at first." Becky twirls her straw around in her drink. "But as I listened to you guys and, well, I might've run into him myself every now and then, I just--I think we match. Just a bit though. Who knows what'll happen."

Meisa snorts. "You can have him. Our date was a little too much for me. I'm not exactly an arcade kind of person."

Becky's eyes go wide. "You went to an arcade? That sounds like fun."

"For you, yeah."

Meisa and Maki exchange looks after this. "Well," Meisa says. "That leaves us and two boys."

"To make it fair, how about you guys say a name at the same time? That way, no one's just saying a name because he's the only one left," Mao says.

They look at each other before nodding.

"Ninomiya-kun," Maki says.

"Ohno-kun," Meisa says.

Maki's eyes go wide. "Wait, did you just say Ohno?"

Meisa doesn't blush, but her cheeks do pink a touch. "I know. I--can't really explain it."

"You don't have to," Maki says with a smile. "I'm just happy for you. And him. And for you both."

Meisa huffs. "Enough of that, you liked Ninomiya-kun? Really?"

Maki laughs. "I don't have to explain any more than you do."

Meisa rolls her eyes. "I think we've been a bad influence on you."

"Or just the right one." Maki smiles, which the rest of the girls return.
