My last day of work was Monday. I felt sad to be leaving a lot of the people there-- even Mike and Joe, at least a bit. But especially Heather, Alissa (who left already), Magazines-Andy and Andy.
Andy and I got pretty close this past month... we decided to hang together outside Borders (shock, horror!) before I go to college on Friday. So I called him yesterday and he suggested a trip to the Hayden Planetarium. Space Geek that I am, I accepted.
He picked me up at noon today. We had intended to take the train into the city, but couldn't find a single parking spot at the Westport train station. So we ended up driving in. I think the most fun we had today was in the car, actually. He wasn't as complete of a wacko there as at other times... Andy's a strange guy, all in all. There are times I think he really understands me, and times when he goes all emotional and strange. It's hard for me to cope with a 45-year-old's emotions... Especially when he mentioned "intense feelings" with regard to me (thankfully that moment was just in passing!!). Luckily, he was normal for the majority of the day. And yes, I did have lots of fun. :)
First we went to one of the Planetarium's space shows, and saw all the museum's other exhibits. One of my favorites was the biodiversity hall. Sooo cool.
Then we walked around the city a bit, and settled down in Central Park to chat. Very relaxing.
For dinner we had a real andventure: totally lost, we took the subway down to Greeenwich Village to find a restaurant Andy had remembered. Of course, he had no idea where it was. After a couple of meandering hours, though, we found it. The food was surprisingly good... We both had chicken kebobs with mashed potatoes. And we drew with chalk on the table-- of course the subject of our art was Borders. My drawing of the registers was completely out of proportion with the rest of the store, sadly.
Going back uptown was the real adventure of the night! We somehow took the E train to Brooklyn (Queens, maybe?) instead of an A or C to 73rd street. Oh well...
In the end, I spent 11 hours out of the house today, not at Borders. Wow. Talk about a record.
And in spite of some of the awkward moments, I'm really glad I went. Andy's really nice to me, and it never hurts to have a nice friend.
