The rain was pouring heavily that one Sunday afternoon. It had been an hour since the service ended and everyone had already left… everyone but Kyungsoo.
His suit was drenched by the continuous rain, Kyungsoo was already shivering from the cold but he couldn’t move his feet. Kyungsoo couldn’t walk away from the mound of soil that held the body of the man he loved.
Junmyeon was his best friend, the one who knew him inside out. He had loved him for so long but he never had the courage to confess his true feelings. Kyungsoo spent years and months to come up with the perfect song, a song that would reflect his feelings for Junmyeon and he was almost done with it, he would have sang it and confessed to Junmyeon but he never got to. Junmyeon died before Kyungsoo could even sing a note.
“Kyungsoo, I know it’s hard but you need to eat.” Chanyeol came into Kyungsoo’s room with a tray of food for the other.
Kyungsoo completely ignored his giant cousin, burying himself further into his blanket.
“Kyungsoo…” Chanyeol gently shook his cousin. “Kyungsoo, you need to start getting back into shape. You have a concert next week to prepare for; Junmyeon wouldn’t want you to ignore your responsibilities.”
Kyungsoo angrily pulled the covers off him. “Doesn’t really matter now what Junmyeon wants, he’s gone! He left me!”
“Kyungsoo…”
“Get out Chanyeol… I really want to be left alone.”
“But Kyungsoo, you know I can’t do that, we are all worried about you…”
“None of you understand what I’m going through! Screw the concert! I can’t do this anymore Chanyeol so leave me alone!!! Leave!!!” He pulled the blankets back over him and resumed hiding from the rest of the world.
Chanyeol stared back at the bed and he could only sigh, he needed to find a way to help his cousin back onto his feet.
“I don’t think Kyungsoo will be ready to perform next week, he needs more time to deal with losing Junmyeon. I think we need to start doing some damage control now.” Chanyeol tiredly rested his back on the couch of his boyfriend’s office.
Baekhyun, Chanyeol’s boyfriend was also Kyungsoo’s manager. He was busy on his computer, probably dealing with the things about the concert that would most likely be postponed now.
“I know…” Baekhyun groaned, rubbing his aching head.
“So what do we do about him?” Chanyeol asked. He got off the couch, stood behind his boyfriend and took over on massaging the other’s forehead.
“I don’t know…” Baekhyun groaned once more, this time relaxing into his boyfriend’s touch. “But he really needs some time away from all of this. Everything around him now just reminds him of Junmyeon. He needs a change of scenery… away from the spotlight.”
“I think you are right. How about this, I’ll go search for a place that might help him relax and cope up with what’s happened and then I’ll go arrange everything he needs for travel. Question is who will come with him?”
“You know I can’t leave right now, I have a lot of things to deal with.” Baekhyun reasoned.
“I also can’t leave; I don’t want you to deal with all the stress alone. We need to find someone to babysit him.” Chanyeol suggested and his boyfriend nodded in agreement.
“Ok, then I’ll go start my search now…” Chanyeol leaned in to place a kiss on Baekhyun’s forehead before going back to the couch and started searching away on his phone.
Once Kyungsoo was sure that Chanyeol was out of his room, he pulled the blankets off of him again and leaned back on his bed’s headboard. He really wanted to be left alone and he was sure that he will not get it there. He needed to get away.
Kyungsoo grabbed his laptop by the side of his bed. He couldn’t fight off his tears from falling when memories of Junmyeon flooded his mind.
Kyungsoo and Junmyeon had wanted to go backpacking but they never really had the time to do it. Kyungsoo opened the site and typed the password to his account that Junmyeon had set for him. He spent the next hours filtering options and searching for an isolated place where he can be finally be left alone. He wanted to leave as soon as possible, staying at home won’t do his sanity any good.
Chanyeol had finally arranged everything after a week, now all he needed to do was tell Kyungsoo about it. He entered Kyungsoo’s house and was greeted by one of his cousin’s house help.
“Is Kyungsoo in his room?” Chanyeol asked.
“Kyungsoo left this morning…”
“Went out for jogging?” Chanyeol was both surprised and curious. “It’s almost lunch now, hasn’t he come back yet?”
“I don’t think he’s coming back today, he has his luggage with him.”
“What luggage?!?” Chanyeol screamed in shock. The house help just went to the kitchen to grab something and when she came back, she handed an envelope to Chanyeol.
“He told me to give this to you.”
Chanyeol immediately opened the envelope and unfolded the letter.
Chanyeol and Baekhyun
I know you two are probably stressing right now but I am okay. I just really want to be alone. I’m sorry that I have to leave you two to deal with the mess I’ll be leaving but I can’t really work right now. I need to find myself again, I need to fully accept that Junmyeon is gone and move on with my life. I know I’m a shitty friend and cousin for doing this to the two of you, I promise to make up once I get back. I promise to take care of myself, I’ll be back once I’m ready to face my life again.
Kyungsoo
Chanyeol couldn’t believe what he had just read; Kyungsoo took off and didn’t even tell them where he was heading. He immediately grabbed his phone and tried to call Kyungsoo but of course Kyungsoo wasn’t answering. He was left with no choice but to call his boyfriend and tell him what Kyungsoo just did. He was sure Baekhyun wouldn’t stop panicking until Kyungsoo contacted them again.
It was already past noon when Kyungsoo’s plane landed. He quickly made his way out of the airport and prayed that no one would recognize him. He then took a bus that would take him to the port where he needed to ride a ferry to get to the island. Kyungsoo sent a quick text to his manager to somehow ease the other’s sanity.
My plane landed, I’m okay… will be back after a month…
Kyungsoo turned off his phone after that. He won’t be using it for a while. The ferry reached its destination and Kyungsoo took out a printed copy of the directions to the house he will be staying at. The house was surprisingly easy to find, it was at the edge of the small town, almost at a cliff with the scenic view of the sea on the back.
Kyungsoo knocked on the door and it didn’t take long when the door was opened by a tanned man.
“Good afternoon, I’m looking for Kim Jongin…” Kyungsoo greeted.
“Oh, you must be Kyungsoo. Come in, come in… welcome to Biri!” Jongin cheerfully welcomed him, stepping to the side to let him in.
“Yes, I’m Kyungsoo…” Kyungsoo smiled and tried to match Jongin’s excitement although honestly, he just want to get to his room and sleep. The travel was very tiring after all.
“Take a seat…” Jongin gestured to his new guest to sit on the couch. “Here, have some snacks first…”
Jongin lifted the plate up and brought it near Kyungsoo so the other could get one. “This is called turon… basically a banana, wrapped in flour wrapper then fried in oil with caramelized brown sugar.”
Kyungsoo nodded at the description and took one. “Thank you…” It doesn’t look weird and by the way Jongin explained the contents of it, Kyungsoo deemed it safe to try it after all he was also really hungry.
“It’s delicious…” Kyungsoo commented after taking two bites of it and continued eating. Thankfully, it also doesn’t taste weird, just a sweet banana with some crispiness from the wrapper.
Jongin smiled as he watched Kyungsoo take another piece. “Glad to see that you like it. Anyways, I don’t have that much house rules…just you know… clean up after yourself. You are free to use the kitchen anytime, there is always cereals and ramen in there.”
After Kyungsoo had his fill, Jongin finally led him to his room.
“This will be your room; it has its own bathroom and a perfect view of the sea…” Jongin grinned as he pulled the curtains to the side. “My room is directly opposite of yours, I’m a cartoonist and I’m mostly at home, feel free to seek for me if ever you need anything…”
“Okay… thank you… this is such a nice room…” Kyungsoo commented.
“Okay then I’ll leave you to rest, I’m pretty sure you are tired from the travel. Nice to meet you Kyungsoo, I hope you’ll enjoy your stay here…” Jongin smiled one more time before closing the door for Kyungsoo to have his privacy.
It had been two weeks and Jongin barely saw Kyungsoo out of his room. Kyungsoo would only go out of his room to eat and then immediately hide back after eating. Jongin honestly doesn’t find it odd, for him he have two kinds of guests; people who visit the island to unwind and relax and then there were a few guests who just want to hide from the world. Jongin believed Kyungsoo was the second one.
Jongin had been hosting for years now and he had grown better in analyzing people through the different guests he had over. Jongin knew that the other was hiding something when he saw that Kyungsoo was smiling yet it didn’t reach his beautiful eyes. Jongin wanted to know why but Kyungsoo wanted to hide away for a reason and Jongin knew that he had to respect that.
Normally, when he has guests over, Jongin would give some of his time to tour them around the island. Unfortunately though Jongin had been busy with his deadline for the past two weeks that he couldn’t invite Kyungsoo to explore the island but now that he was finally done with his drawings, he would try and invite Kyungsoo to go out.
Jongin was having his breakfast when Kyungsoo’s door opened and a sleepy Kyungsoo walked out.
“Good morning…” Jongin couldn’t help but smile at how cute a freshly awaken Kyungsoo was.
“G-Good morning…” Kyungsoo was a bit surprised to see Jongin up because usually at that time Jongin was catching up on his sleep after pulling up an all-nighter for his deadline.
“Have a seat; I made breakfast for the two of us. Sorry, I hadn’t been a good host lately…there were just some things that I needed to finish…”
“It’s totally fine, I understand. I’ve actually been enjoying my stay…” Kyungsoo timidly smiled.
“Really? But I rarely see you get out of the house…”
“Oh… about that… I…”
“ Look, you don’t have to tell me anything about why you were always in your room but since you are already here, how about I take you out and show you what the tourists had been coming back here for…” Jongin offered.
“I don’t mean to be rude Jongin but I just really want to be alone for awhile…”
“Awww come on Kyungsoo…just this once please. Come with me just this once and then I’ll never bother you with coming out ever again. Please….” Jongin showed his best puppy eyes and hoped that Kyungsoo would fall for it. “I promise… just one day…”
“Uhmm…” Kyungsoo stared at the other, he really wanted to just stay in his room but Jongin did have a point, he was already there might as well check the place out. “O-Okay…”
“Yes!!!” Jongin cheered. “We’ll head out after breakfast…now eat up…” Jongin offered the plate of bacon to Kyungsoo.
After freshening up, Kyungsoo walked out of the house and saw Jongin waiting by his motorbike with a wide smile on his face.
“Safety first…” Jongin handed a Pororo helmet to Kyungsoo and Kyungsoo had to resist his laughter because Jongin was already wearing the Krong designed helmet.
“What?” Jongin didn’t miss the hint of laughter that Kyungsoo was trying to hide. “Can’t a grown man enjoy his Pororo and Krong???”
“I wasn’t saying anything…” but this time Kyungsoo out right giggled in front of Jongin.
“Be thankful that you looked cute giggling if not for that, I won’t let it pass. Now wear this…” Jongin grabbed the helmet and put it on Kyungsoo. “We want that pretty face of yours protected right?” He grinned as he locked the helmet in place.
Kyungsoo was aware of the blush that crept on his face and for the first time he was thankful for the helmet for hiding most of it. Jongin on the other hand, got on his motorbike and waited for Kyungsoo to hop in. After Kyungsoo was seated, Jongin reached out for both of Kyungsoo’s hands and put it on his own waist.
“Hold onto my shirt, I get to focus much better on driving if I don’t have to think whether my passenger is holding on to something or not…” Jongin quickly explained. “Hold on, okay…”
Jongin was driving at a normal pace, not too slow, not too fast…just enough for Kyungsoo to still enjoy the scenery that they were passing through. Jongin drove past the small town and headed to the other side of the island. It only took them 20 minutes to reach their destination.
Jongin parked his motorcycle on the side of the road. He then led Kyungsoo down the stairs and into the long stretch of sand and rocks. From where they were standing, they could already see the majestic rock formations that the island was famous for.
“It’s beautiful…” Kyungsoo admired the view.
“It’s prettier upfront… let’s go!!!” Jongin grabbed Kyungsoo’s hand and pulled the other into a sprint.
The two ran like innocent little boys on the beach. Now that Kyungsoo was much closer he saw how the water was violently crashing on the rocks, the sound of waves filled his ears. Kyungsoo was enjoying the serenity when Jongin dragged him to another spot.
Kyungsoo’s eyes widen in awe as he stood at the edge of a saltwater pool naturally made by the rock formations. It was so clear that Kyungsoo can see the bed of rock at the bottom.
“Let’s go take a dip!!!” Jongin took off his shirt and bag and jumped into the water. “Don’t worry it’s not that deep… I’ll catch you if you don’t know how to swim.” Jongin reassured his guest but Kyungsoo just rolled his eyes at him and took off his own shirt before jumping into the pool. Turned out Kyungsoo could swim just fine.
There weren’t that many tourists that day so Jongin and Kyungsoo were able to enjoy doing laps in the pool. They even made it to a game, loser gets flicked on the forehead… after several rounds, Jongin’s forehead has a reddish spot in the middle and Kyungsoo was grinning victoriously.
Jongin then guided Kyungsoo into climbing one of the rock formations. When they reached the peak, Kyungsoo was once again in awe of the magnificent view of the sea. They sat by the edge of the rock, facing the beautiful body of water while having their lunch that Jongin prepared.
After feeding their tummies with food, they silently remained in their spot… admiring the view and just enjoying the tranquility of it all. Kyungsoo didn’t think that it would be relaxing but now he was thankful that Jongin dragged him out.
“Thank you Jongin…” Kyungsoo smiled and looked to his right where Jongin was still staring at the open sea.
“That is like the 6th time you thanked me today. I told you it’s nothing, I’m glad to know that you are enjoying the place.” Jongin chuckled.
“I do… I’m enjoying it. Sitting here and staring at the sea… I can’t explain it but it is somehow relaxing. I mean your room also has the view of the sea but being this close with the sea breeze on my face makes it more calming.” Kyungsoo explained.
“I know, that is why I invited you here… I was hoping I can cheer you up even just a bit…” Jongin smiled and gently pat Kyungsoo on the back.
“Yeah… thank you again Jongin…”
The two fell into a blanket of silence after that, each one deep in their own thoughts, the place perfectly helping them reconnect with their inner self.
“I lost someone. I’m here because I want to get over him.” Kyungsoo spoke up after a few minutes, suddenly opening up to Jongin.
“Boyfriend?” Jongin asked curiously.
“Oh, how I wish we were.” Kyungsoo laughed bitterly. “I wasn’t even able to tell him what I really feel about him. I spent months and months writing my confession into a song but he died before I could sing it to him…”
“Then sing it… let him hear it. He may not be here physically but I’m pretty sure he is watching over you now. I know it is hard losing someone you love so suddenly but sometimes we just have to really push ourselves into the path of accepting it. One step at a time…”
“I don’t even know if I can sing it without crying my eyes out…” Kyungsoo sighed.
“Then cry… there is nothing wrong with crying, that is what you are really feeling so let it all out. You shouldn’t hide your real feelings, it will only just pile up and your heart will just grow heavy.” Jongin scooted closer and placed his palm on Kyungsoo’s chest where Kyungsoo’s heart was.
“Let the sadness out; let your heart breathe… so acceptance can come in.” Jongin stared at Kyungsoo for a while and saw Kyungsoo nodded.
“I can give you some time alone if you---“ Jongin was about to get up but Kyungsoo stopped him.
“No stay…. Please stay Jongin…”
“Okay then, I’ll just face the other way so you won’t get conscious of me…” Jongin fixed his position and turned his back to Kyungsoo’s side.
Kyungsoo gently leaned his head on Jongin’s back and started singing. He hadn’t even finished the second stanza when his voice started to crack and his tears started soaking Jongin’s shirt. Jongin remained silent and just let Kyungsoo finish his song, a part of him mesmerized of by Kyungsoo’s voice.
“Why did you leave me, Myeonie…” Kyungsoo whispered at the end of the song, he was hiccupping from the surge of emotions he had let out but his tears just won’t stop flowing.
When Jongin realized that Kyungsoo was done singing, he swiftly turned around and cradled Kyungsoo in his arms, letting him cry to his heart’s content.
“He’s lucky, Kyungsoo… because you loved him.” Jongin whispered into Kyungsoo’s ears. He rubbed circles on Kyungsoo’s back and patiently waited for him to calm down.
After that day at the beach, Kyungsoo spent more time out of his room. Surprisingly, Jongin was right about letting his feelings out and now Kyungsoo felt a little lighter. He spent lunch and dinners with Jongin, he even went with Jongin to the market sometimes. Of course at night, thoughts of Junmyeon would still consume him but there were those fun nights where he spent it in the living room with Jongin over movies and popcorns.
Just like that, another two weeks had passed and Kyungsoo had to face reality and responsibilities once again. On his last day at the island, Jongin took Kyungsoo back to the rock formations and they spent the day swimming and sitting at their previous spot.
“I’m pretty sure Baekhyun will drown me with workloads once I get back…” Kyungsoo sighed as he took in the wonderful view of the sea again.
“Well serves you right for leaving them so suddenly…” Jongin chuckled.
“But hey… we can still…” Kyungsoo hesitated for a bit before continuing. “…chat right?”
Jongin laughed once more. “Hey, I’m not the superstar with a busy schedule. I’m always at home with my drawing pen and tablet… and my phone… I’ll reply as soon as you send a message…” Jongin playfully winked and now it was Kyungsoo who roared in laughter.
“Once we set the concert dates again, I’ll send you a ticket… will you come?” Kyungsoo asked.
“Hmmm…. I don’t know… maybe… I’ll think about it?” Jongin teased.
Kyungsoo faked a gasp. “YAH!” He lightly smacked Jongin’s arms.
“I’m kidding! Of course I’ll come…It’s VVIP with backstage pass right?” Jongin joked once again and Kyungsoo’s laughter filled the air.
The two stayed at the beach until afternoon and watched the sun set in the horizon.
The next day, Jongin took Kyungsoo to the airport and before they part ways, Jongin handed a gift to Kyungsoo.
“What is this?” Kyungsoo happily took the gift.
“Farewell gift…” Jongin answered simply.
“Do you always give farewell gifts to your guests?” Kyungsoo asked curiously.
“No… just the special ones…”
“Special huh?” Kyungsoo smirked.
“Well it’s not every day a superstar stays in my home, right? How much do you think your fans will pay for the bed sheets you slept on” Jongin teased.
“HAHA” Kyungsoo sarcastically laughed; of course he knew that Jongin won’t do things like that.
“Open it when you’re finally seated on the plane… you might not want to go back to Seoul after seeing it.” Jongin reminded him and Kyungsoo nodded.
“Ok, I need to go now… thank you again for everything Jongin…” Kyungsoo moved and hugged Jongin.
“It was my pleasure Kyungsoo…” Jongin hugged back and they remain in that position for a while before they had to let go.
“Have a safe flight…” Jongin said in a tight smile.
Kyungsoo nodded and grabbed his luggage. “I’ll call you when I land, okay? Bye…” Kyungsoo waved his hand.
“Bye…” Jongin waved back until Kyungsoo turned around and entered the gate.
“It was actually my first time giving a gift to a guest… someone finally deserved it…” Jongin mumbled to himself as he continued to stare at Kyungsoo’s back as the other walked further away from him.
Once he got settled in his seat, Kyungsoo excitedly opened Jongin’s gift. It was a sketchpad and when he opened it, it contained several of Jongin’s sketches. The first one was the view of the sea from his room window, then the rock formations… then sketches of him… of them…at the beach. It was like Jongin documented his trip in the island.
The last sketch was a silhouette of the two of them watching the sun set in the horizon.
After Kyungsoo got back, his workload was full as he expected. He had to deal with a lot of things to make up for abruptly delaying his concert. Despite the massive amount of schedule he had, Kyungsoo didn’t forgot to check his phone from time to time, sending messages to Jongin no matter how late his reply was.
Jongin made an impact in Kyungsoo’s life. Kyungsoo found himself comfortably telling Jongin whatever happened to him that day and Jongin would always make funny and teasing comments about it. Kyungsoo didn’t expect he would warm up to Jongin in such a short time but there was something about Jongin that made Kyungsoo feel light… maybe it was because Jongin helped him deal with losing Junmyeon or the carefree aura that Jongin seemed to passed on him.
It was one of Kyungsoo’s rare day off that Kyungsoo found himself writing a new song. Usually on his day off, Jongin would go back to the rock formations and video call him, so he could see the scenery once again, but on that certain day, Kyungsoo knew that Jongin was working on an important deadline and Kyungsoo didn’t want to disrupt Jongin’s focus. So that was how he ended up in front of his piano again and started composing a song.
Kyungsoo was surprised at how words just kept on flowing out of his head, like his brain already knew what to put in the song. Kyungsoo spent two weeks on finishing the song, working on it as much as he could in between his schedules and when he finally finished the song, he immediately wanted Chanyeol and Baekhyun to hear it.
Kyungsoo went down to the kitchen where his cousin and his manager were probably having breakfast and hopefully not making out.
“Chanyeol! Baekhyun! I have a new song!!!” Kyungsoo excitedly entered the room.
Chanyeol and Baekhyun looked at each other in surprise.
“New song? Is it about Jongin?” Baekhyun asked out of curiosity.
“S-Sort off… h-how did you even…..” Kyungsoo looked away suddenly feeling shy about it.
Baekhyun chuckled. “Wow that guy really caught your attention. Are you in love with him?”
“L-Love? What are you talking about?”
“Soo, can’t you see? You like Junmyeon but it took you months to finish a song about him but with Jongin ---“
Chanyeol’s word after that blurred in his head, Kyungsoo was suddenly stuck with a realization that what Chanyeol said was right and then another question hit him… Was he perhaps really falling for Jongin?
Kyungsoo was deep in his own thoughts when he heard the island’s name being mentioned in the background. He quickly grabbed the remote control and adjusted the volume so he could hear it better. The damaged state of the island due to the super typhoon that had hit it was all over the news.
Jongin! was Kyungsoo’s first line of thought. He was immediately masked with worry about what might had happened to Jongin.
“No… no… not again…” Kyungsoo started to panic as thoughts of something bad happening to Jongin filled his mind. Kyungsoo was getting scared, it reminded him of the time when Baekhyun told him about Junmyeon’s accident.
Kyungsoo quickly ran back to his room and grabbed his phone. He immediately tried to contact Jongin but the other wasn’t answering. Baekhyun and Chanyeol, who followed him to his room, watched in worry as he kept on trying to call Jongin.
“Baek! We need to get to Biri!” Kyungsoo shrieked.
“Kyungsoo, we can’t. It will be dangerous the typhoon is still hitting the country.”
“NO Baek! You don’t understand! I can’t reach Jongin; he is not answering my calls, not replying to my chats… what if… what if….” Kyungsoo starts to hyperventilate, tears gathering in his eyes as scary thoughts of what might had happened to Jongin kept on going through his head.
Chanyeol grabbed both of his cousin’s arms and tried to calm the other down. “It’s a big typhoon Soo, maybe their connections are down. I’m pretty sure Jongin will contact you as soon as he can.”
“What if he can’t? What if he could no longer do it! You saw how damaged the island was! What if ---“ Kyungsoo couldn’t say it but he couldn’t help but think of the worst thing that might had happened to Jongin.
“Kyungsoo, you have to calm down.” Baekhyun cupped his face and helped him regulate his breathing. “I will make some arrangements. Chanyeol and I will accompany you to Biri… but you have to calm down, stop thinking about… the worst.”
“I just can’t…” Kyungsoo weakly mumbled, his tears running on his cheeks. “I’ve already lost Junmyeon… I really don’t know what to do if I lost him too…”
Baekhyun and Chanyeol nodded in understanding. They both hugged Kyungsoo, trying their best to comfort him.
It still took them three days due to the typhoon before they were able to finally get to Biri. Kyungsoo was restless the whole time and when the ferry finally reached the small port, he immediately ran towards Jongin’s house, Chanyeol and Baekhyun quickly following him.
When Chanyeol and Baekhyun were able to catch up, they saw Kyungsoo standing in front of a greatly wrecked house. Kyungsoo couldn’t even take a step further towards the house, just the state of the house scared him of what might had happened to the person living in it.
“Is this his house?” Chanyeol asked.
Kyungsoo weakly nodded. “…what’s left of it”
“Jongin…” Baekhyun stepped forward and gently called the owner of the house, hoping that the other would pop out of somewhere.
That seemed to take Kyungsoo out of his trance… he moved as much as he can into the house and started calling out for Jongin. Minutes passed and still no Jongin showed up, Kyungsoo tried to enter the house but Chanyeol won’t let him, afraid that he might hurt himself. Kyungsoo’s calls then turned into desperate cries and all Chanyeol and Baekhyun could do was to comfort him.
An hour had passed since the trio arrived when a motorcycle stopped in front of the house. The rider took off his Krong helmet and stared at the three people standing on his driveway until he noticed a familiar one among them.
“Kyungsoo?” Jongin called out but Kyungsoo was still crying on Baekhyun’s chest unaware of his presence.
Jongin approached them, wondering why Kyungsoo was crying and gently rubbed Kyungsoo’s back. “Kyungsoo…”
Kyungsoo finally looked up at the sound of a familiar voice so close to him.
“Jongin!” he gasped and then jumped into the arms of an unsuspecting Jongin. “I thought something had happened to you!” Kyungsoo sobbed.
Jongin closed his eyes and wrapped his arms tighter around Kyungsoo, frankly enjoying the warmth of Kyungsoo in his arms. Then after a few minutes he cupped Kyungsoo’s face and wiped the other’s tears with his hand.
“I’m sorry I was not able to contact you. I was busy going back and forth from the mainland, trying to salvage what I can still use from the house.” Jongin sighed as he looked at the state of his house.
“But are you okay? Were you hurt when the typhoon hit?” Kyungsoo asked.
“I’m okay. I was not here when the typhoon hit the island. I had a meeting in the city, two days before the typhoon landed. I knew they would prohibit the operation of the ferry so I stayed there until the typhoon left. I’m actually still staying there in my cousin’s place. I just came back here today to see if there were still things that I could take…” Jongin explained.
“The important thing is you are not hurt…” Kyungsoo sighed in relief.
“The more important thing is I came back today because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t have seen you and you’ll still be a crying mess thinking that I died or something…” Jongin grinned.
“Not funny!” Kyungsoo whined and hit Jongin’s chest. “You knew how I felt when I lost Junmyeon…”
“Oh! so I’m in the same category as Junmyeon in your life right now?” Jongin teased. “Is that a confession, Kyungsoo?”
“W-what are you talking about?! I was merely checking the state of a friend…” Kyungsoo’s blushing cheeks were clearly betraying him.
“Nah…” Jongin confidently shook his head. “You wouldn’t cross countries just to check on an ordinary friend.”
Jongin looked at Kyungsoo straight in the eye, his hand caressing Kyungsoo’s cheeks. “You came all the way here because you were scared that you lost me… the same way that you were scared when you lost Junmyeon. Action speaks louder than words Soo, and I am so glad that you did it for me.”
Jongin took Kyungsoo’s hand with his free hand and intertwine their fingers together. “Honestly, I didn’t want you to leave the first time that you were here but we just met back then, you were still healing and it was all too soon so I let you leave and hoped that you will keep your word and still be in contact with me. And you did, despite of your heavy schedule… you still let me into your life.”
“I was planning on doing this, after I get myself settled in Seoul but you are already here and I think this is the perfect time to confess that I love you, Kyungsoo. I certainly want to be more than just an ordinary friend… so will you please… please be my boyfriend?” Jongin was smiling hopefully.
Someone gasped from behind them, probably Baekhyun but Kyungsoo was too darn happy to check who it was, he just moved and hugged Jongin with a content smile on his face.
“I think I already answered that when I rushed here…I love you too Jongin…” Kyungsoo lifted his head and kissed Jongin on the cheeks.
Jongin giggled then he gently cupped Kyungsoo’s face. “This is how you properly kiss your boyfriend…”
Jongin gently leaned down and captured Kyungsoo’s lips, of course Kyungsoo happily kissed back. They knew they had an audience so they were forced to keep it simple and short.
“Wait, what you do you mean by settling in Seoul?” Kyungsoo asked curiously.
“Well the meeting I was talking about was for my transfer to Seoul. I applied for the job opening in the Seoul branch and I got it.” Jongin excitedly explained.
“You applied to be transferred to Seoul?” Kyungsoo was in awe.
“Yeah, I figured I will be closer to you. I know how busy you are and I was suffering here from missing you too much so when I found out about the opening in the Seoul branch, I took it. It will be fun being the secret lover of superstar D.O….so why not right?”
“Now, why will I keep it a secret? I want the whole world to know that you are mine… question is, are you ready to be in the spotlight?”
“As long as I can hold your hand…” Jongin beamed, leaning to kiss Kyungsoo again.
