Summary: Incapable of protecting Kyungsoo, a fresh omega, his pack surrenders him to the most competent alpha.
AN: Thank you so much to the mods and for the ones who will be reading this <3 I enjoyed writing this.
The daylight makes its first greeting above the skyline, rendering the town with its usual glow; for Kyungsoo, it's a different morning ahead. Kyungsoo reevaluates the dawn, missing the crack of autumn leaves beneath his hold, and now inhales a lemon humidifier in place of burnt thicket in the woods.
Different. Kyungsoo's yet to know if it's a good or bad sort of a change. Though, his pack has told him it's the former. Kyungsoo smiled through his uncertainty, pushing away the image of his pack's tight-lipped gazes.
The breeze colors his cheeks red. Kyungsoo brushes his tongue on his chapped lips, clutching the silk scarf around his neck to cover the expanse. He rests his fingers on the cloth, and feels the precarious sheet of material his leader has given him. It's a gift, and Kyungsoo was reluctant to accept it, when right before that, Chanyeol had also given him the most expensive luggage he's seen.
"You want me to leave, right?"
The alpha lowered his head. No alpha should do that in front of an omega, but Kyungsoo understands. It's humiliating, and so he does not press on the issue. It's the figurative way to say the pack is weak enough to protect a ripe and pure omega like him.
"If you need anything, don't hesitate. I'll write you down my number." Baekhyun picked up the last remaining sweater and folded the article neatly. "Never skip your vitamins, alright?"
Kyungsoo remained seated on his bed.
"Kim Jongin is... very capable. He may be serious and cold, but you'll be needing him better than us. I'm so sorry, Kyungsoo." Baekhyun gathered the omega in his arms. Kyungsoo will miss the warmth the regular kisses on his forehead give him.
For now, Jongin is an enigma- a door he has to knock on, but not a puzzle he needs to crack. A seemingly distant alpha, but is always present as he bares his fangs to any aggressor. The name sends the big news tumbling, sounding too beyond reach. Kyungsoo wonders how he can manage.
It may be out of selfishness, but Kyungsoo refuses the negativity to dwell on him. The first time it happened was a havoc. His first heat had stricken in the middle of a hunt. The pain had sent him over the edge, shooting him down on the ground and his fingers twitching. His groans had muted his pack’s howls as they scrape eager alphas and betas in the vicinity itching to mate him. The day expectedly had ended bad, with two of their members gone and their alpha barely able to stand up. The rest of them had traded their tenderness with glower.
So now, Kyungsoo stands small beside the sofa with the luggage on his hold, unmoving. The apartment is homey enough, he’s certain, with the way the TV plays a melodrama film that fills the comfortable silence. The home’s garnished with artsy paintings of contrasting colors, and on the shelf sits car toys, which Kyungsoo presumes to be the alpha’s collection. Kyungsoo wonders if the alpha often stays, as he also notices unfinished bookmarked paperbacks placed in the consul. Most alphas find no time to spare for their private hustle, so Kyungsoo finds it different, as he sees the apartment filled with signed of life.
Most alphas cannot take care of themselves as well, often relying on their mate’s lunch or to-go’s. Kyungsoo questioningly stares as Jongin hunches over the stove, gauging the heat before he prepares the protein food in the breakfast nook. The kitchen looks empty, save for the one or two skillet and pans on the hook, and the fridge which makes Kyungsoo plan to check if it’s filled later. The smell of the bacon lingers in his nose, as the trace bounces off walls, satisfying his hunger.
“Come and sit.”
Jongin lays the dish on the table. His voice wasn’t authoritative, but Kyungsoo swallows a lump before meandering towards the nook. Kyungsoo’s surprised as Jongin pulls his chair, and so he mutters a small thanks before sitting. Jongin takes up the platter and puts two pancakes in the elder's plate, and within this proximity, Kyungsoo can smell the other’s scent.
Kyungsoo appreciates the western meal in front of him. He recalls the last time he’s had this sumptuous meal- it’s been years, because he usually skips breakfast.
Jongin takes the seat in front of him and proceeds to get his portion. The serving’s fewer than his, opting to leave out the eggs. Kyungsoo wonders if alphas are supposed to eat less, and build on their muscles instead. The alpha in front of him quite fits the status; the height and built are in proportion; the stoic face exudes charisma- which Chanyeol lacks, Kyungsoo regrettably thinks. The tan skin must have been the result of the long and early visits to the woods. This is the alpha his former pack expects to protect him. Kyungsoo wonders if Jongin will order him to take care of the dishes later.
Chanyeol has always been the life of their pack; working his best even for a small and weak group like them. Kyungsoo can’t wait to meet Jongin’s, curious if the man maintains his stern countenance in the middle of his rule.
“Instead of staring at me, you can start by telling me more about yourself.”
Kyungsoo shifts his gaze from his steaming miso soup to Jongin. The man maintains his focus to his food, slowly picking up a piece.
“I’m 21 years old and I… Chanyeol and I have known each other since my father had to move jobs 6 years ago. And me, I’m the only omega in my pack.” For the lack of something to say, Kyungsoo mentions about his lack of a companion.
“Okay. I’m younger than you.” Jongin mutters, and Kyungsoo recognizes that elusive small smile the other gave him. Kyungsoo glides his fingers on the moist of the water glass.
“How long are you staying here?” Jongin asks while halving the slice into two. Kyungsoo reddens at the question. Chanyeol should have mentioned it the day they made the agreement.
“Until I find a mate.” Kyungsoo looks at anywhere but Jongin.
Jongin nods, and so they resume their meal. Kyungsoo thinks the meal could have been better, but he doesn't say this, of course. He savors the taste. He stands up, and before he grabs their plates, Jongin wordlessly picks them up and washes them instead. The gush of the water wakes his senses.
“I can wash them for you.” Kyungsoo offers, looking stiff as he’s overdressed, while Jongin’s looking comfortable with jeans and plaid.
“Your room’s ready. Go change.” Jongin nods his head towards the room. He soaps the utensils, and once he's done he proceeds next to the plates. Kyungsoo sighs. It’s just day 1, however. So he lets it pass. Kyungsoo can do the chores for the rest of his stay.
The sun has fully showered its rays in the locale. It reminds him of melted ice cream tainting the ground; the kids on a holiday running for the swing set; the early birds letting go of their shades so as to revel in vitamin D. The warmth seeps its way in the apartment. Kyungsoo takes his scarf off, picks up his luggage and proceeds to the said room.
“Thank you again, Jongin.” He says. Jongin nods. And he’s surprised himself he dropped formalities.
Kyungsoo locks the door and presents himself a king-sized bed. True to Jongin’s words, the bedding is as good as new. He finds the toiletries neatly placed in the bed. He steps further into the room and finds a toilet in the corner. He’s delighted by the bed, as the sheets are fluffy and soft when he sits down. On his former house, he only gets to sleep in the upper bunk.
He strips himself and trades his dress pants to shorts. He takes his time in washing his face. When he goes out, the kitchen’s well-kept and fixed. Jongin’s now gone, and Kyungsoo finds food for himself placed in tupperware for the rest of the day.
Waking up the next day to something new proves not to be difficult. Kyungsoo stretches, knocking down a pillow along the way. He cracks his knuckles and wipes his sleep dust. Although sunlight passed its blatant rays in the room, the duvet still feels cold in his touch. He grooms himself up before leaving the room.
A figure lying on the sofa greets him. The blanket covers the body, from the neck down to toes.
“Jongin?” Kyungsoo silently gasps. He can’t believe he missed the fact that the only bedroom is the one he sleeps on.
The alpha stirs in his sleep. Kyungsoo’s glad the other didn’t wake up; this buys him time to observe the other. The tousled brown hair resting on the male’s peaceful countenance reminds him of Baekhyun when the other dyed his hair. It suits more on Jongin, in his opinion. Kyungsoo wonders how young Jongin is, when the man poises up a chiseled face, unlike him whose baby fat seems to cling to him.
Kyungsoo pulls up his sweater’s sleeves and checks the cooler. What he finds are the remaining rice and eggs. They can settle with omurice for today.
Jongin wakes up the next hour and finds Kyungsoo seated, watching TV.
“Good morning.”
The coffee scent gets him up and going. Jongin saunters to the table and finds himself amused at the sight. Jongin looks back at Kyungsoo, and his eyes rest on the show he’s watching.
“I can cook our food starting from now.” Kyungsoo lowers the volume, the gleam of the screen playing in his eyes. “I hope you’re fine with catsup. I tweaked the recipe a bit.”
Jongin nods in response. He strides towards the cooler and founds nothing. Kyungsoo hopes Jongin will let him run to the grocery.
“By the way,” Kyungsoo changes the channel, just when the cooking show turns up its commercial, “I can take the sofa, you know.” Owning up the bed all for himself is too much, all the while the alpha forcing to fit himself in the poor excuse of a shabby nap bed.
“No. That’s fine.” Jongin yawns and stretches. Kyungsoo looks up at him questioningly.
“And the bed is big enough for us. I wouldn’t want your pack to think that a visitor is changing their alpha’s routine.”
“I guess that’s it.” Jongin says sternly, deep and direct. Kyungsoo supposes it’s his leader voice. “You’re an omega. I’m an alpha. Sharing the same bed?”
Considering that Jongin is also unmated, Kyungsoo seemed to have implied something. He chooses to shift his gaze on his lap, head down in embarrassment. If Kyungsoo’s going to be honest, he doesn’t expect Jongin to be, for the lack of a better term, harmless. His stay’s been barely two days, so he cannot attest to the rumors of the man being snappy.
“And besides, my pack knows about this arrangement.”
Despite the agreement of both parties, Kyungsoo hopes to stray away for a possible commotion. Though there shows to be none. Commotion will only happen if Jongin doesn’t treat him right. Apparently, that looks out of question, since food seems to be more tasty in this apartment, and the sun gleams brighter than any room he’s slept on.
“Do you always get home that late?” What do you do? Where do you go? Kyungsoo wants to know if he’s supposed to wait for Jongin and cook him dinner.
“Ah, not always. And about that,” Jongin picks up a paper from the fridge and ticks out a pen. “I didn’t give you my number. You’re supposed to call me when something comes up.”
Jongin slips the paper in the coffee table Kyungsoo’s in front of. Shortly, Kyungsoo joins Jongin for breakfast. The latter didn’t have to blow off the steam. Kyungsoo regrets putting it out an hour early. Food tastes better when it’s still hot, anyway.
The small apartment has its elusive wonders, preoccupying Kyungsoo throughout the days. His formed routine seems to be well when it speaks of Kyungsoo’s personality. Kyungsoo wasn’t a reader, but it gives him no choice when the shelf is filled with classics and mystery, so takes his time to read. A book takes him about a fraction of a day to finish, and the selections turn out to be more impressive, so takes another reading to his lap after one.
Kyungsoo presents himself to dust off everything and makes it a point to accomplish an area before a day ends. The intricate and seemingly expensive furniture and displays need a careful cleaning. Jongin’s shoes also turn out to be an interesting duty, since the omega likes details; though he needed to rush cleaning one day since Jongin had told him to stop the chore and sleep early instead.
Aside from the things Kyungsoo’s used to do, he also does two things: take care of Jongin’s plants and talk to them.
“This home is lovely and comfortable, but I will like it better if your owner talks more.” Kyungsoo murmurs over a potted fig plant while watering.
Kyungsoo learns about Jongin’s enthusiasm over growing a living thing. He doesn’t like artificial plants, and has been used to the maintenance in his small garden in the balcony. Jongin sometimes joins him in pruning the stems.
The balcony lets Kyungsoo take a peek of the outside. Kyungsoo hasn’t left the house for all the weeks he’s been in. He’s the type that doesn’t plead to go and hang out with his pack, earning him the wallflower title. But a little walk outside for a change seems enticing.
“We’ve ran out of rice.” Kyungsoo shakes the empty tupperware in front of the alpha.
“And sugar.” Jongin sighs and ruffles his hair. “I’ll take a trip to the market tomorrow.”
Saturday night finds Jongin sleepy in a wifebeater and his shorts, accentuating his curvy arms and built leg muscles. Kyungsoo’s having a hard time to admit he admires the volume and sharpness.
“But I think I’m hungry. Like right now.” He tightens his jaw as he thinks he’d sounded demanding. Kyungsoo hopes Jongin gets his message. The neighbourhood has its particular grocer; Kyungsoo assumes it will take him a ten-minute walk.
Jongin looks at him sternly. Kyungsoo gulps, but a smile soon borders Jongin’s lips.
“Alright. But let me come with you.” But… Before Kyungsoo tells Jongin he can manage himself, the alpha has already gone to the storage and prepares.
It’s a feat of the other male that Kyungsoo notices- Jongin leaves out his current task and proceeds to give in Kyungsoo’s request. Kyungsoo feels entranced. Truthfully, it never defeats the purpose of why he’s staying. Like that one time Jongin attempted to make the omega a coffee but forgot to put sugar. Jongin threw the drink and bought him commercial thirst quencher instead. Either way, they taste fine for Kyungsoo.
The cold and humid night sky make Kyungsoo zip up his jacket all the way up to his neck. His lips are chapped, wanting him to moisten with his tongue. For a person who hasn’t gone out for weeks, Kyungsoo is quite jumpy along the way, stopping and admiring the urban feel the neighbourhood gives. Although different, Kyungsoo misses the walks along the areas cast by branding lights. And the night life hasn’t even started yet.
Jongin stays close to him the entire silent walk. And from his stand, he observes how the other reeks of superiority and charisma, when females look longingly at Jongin. Kyungsoo ignores the feeling of being too small beside the other. He should’ve not taken the bulky jacket that will make him look fat. He opts to ponder on what will fit Jongin’s taste. They just had seafood for lunch. Noodles will make them bloated. Beef is fine, but he thinks the other’s looking for something more tasty.
The samgyeopsal diner in the corner street excites him.
While wrapping a lettuce on the pork belly meat slice, Jongin throws a protective arm on his shoulder, glaring at the alpha waiter who is, oblivious to Kyungsoo, sniffing on him. It takes a leer from the almond, condescending eyes before the waiter shuffles away.
“Are you alright?” Jongin asks, pulling his arm away.
“Yeah.” Kyungsoo hopes his cheeks don’t turn pink.
“Finish that up. The market’s a block away from here.” Jongin hunches back and moves, maintaining the small distance from him.
Upon stepping in the area, Kyungsoo’s filled with anticipation. They buy more than what they should, and Kyungsoo puts in the basket Jongin doesn’t think they really need. But when the omega insists, it must have something to do with maintenance, since Kyungsoo stays more often at home.
Kyungsoo touches himself that night. With only in his shirt and nothing else, he stands against the bathroom wall, biting the collar of his shirt so that his small moans are muffled. He shamefully pumps fast, and feels his knees weaken as his fingers graze the sensitive skin. He’s not in heat yet, but images of him on top of Jongin’s chiselled torso forces upon his mind.
Kyungsoo can’t even look at Jongin the next day. And the following days after that.
The month is leaping its end. As midnight strikes, the moon rains blue in the town. The few stores have dimmed out their lights, leaving the lamp posts lightening the drive especially for the ones taking the graveyard shift. Kyungsoo sees a few swaying bodies from where he sits inside his room- teenagers laughing over something. He assumes they’re not heading straight home.
Speaking of home, Kyungsoo’s thoughts shift from his mom, whom he had taken his green thumb, then to his pack, who never fails to bring enough prey for a bite, as many as how their small pack can manage. Chanyeol had always led them through the hunt, starting from the assembly to dismissal. Every hunt had proven to be difficult, especially for their admittedly low calibre- but their pride manages to save them at least. Kyungsoo had always made sure not to fall behind. The omega assists the pack by clawing their target straight to their neck. His last thoughts remain on Jongin, who sheltered him for weeks.
The silence keeps up with his calm composure, except for the vague television sounds in the living room. Kyungsoo observes the moon once again, which was reminding him the past days of the hunt. The huge silver disk at night calls for his wolf. His wolf, who’s been feisty, yet trying to keep up with his pack, at the same time aching for something- someone’s attention. Tomorrow, the full moon will radiate its glint.
Kyungsoo stands up from his bed and opens the door. He peeks outside, and stares as he sees Jongin, tucked in the blanket as he keeps his eyes on the show.
The omega meanders towards the other.
“Jongin?” Kyungsoo gets the attention of the said male, who smiles as if he remembers something. Jongin looks at his side, and Kyungsoo waits while standing.
“Here.” Jongin picks up the spicy rice cake, packaged in a box. “We don’t usually eat snacks, so I bought you some.”
Kyungsoo takes and sees the box with intricate decorative carvings on its side, much different to the ones that can only be bought in plastics.
“Thanks for this.”
“You might want a midnight bite, but I thought you’d already hit the hay.” Jongin puts the remote down, and waits as Kyungsoo opens it. A blunt smile shows on Kyungsoo’s lips as he lifts the lid- the spicy smell and the steam make the food more enticing.
“They still put cheese in these?”
“Not sure. But I told them to.” Kyungsoo’s smile widens further, because he’d always like his food with extra cheese. Kyungsoo wants to take a taste, but he already brushed his teeth. Kyungsoo closes the lid and sets the snack aside. The tasty rice cake can wait; now, Kyungsoo needs to deliver his concern to the alpha.
His eyes then shift to the screen, and Kyungsoo coos at how Jongin is fond of picturesque films. In his free time, Jongin has been watching films, and Kyungsoo sometimes joins him if the genre allows him to. Films have evolved over the years- some had been produced to satisfy the mass without any cinematic put-ins of whatsoever; some vividly focus on reality, in which the characters boldly grow. The latter is becoming Kyungsoo’s past time as well. Some may frown upon it, but like Jongin, the chances of not sleeping through the movie is more probable if it’s spearheaded by his favorite director.
Kyungsoo moves further to the sofa, and Jongin makes a space for the other. His sight lingers to Jongin, who’s all curled up in his blanket, his hair sticking to all ends. The light from the screen illuminates Jongin’s visage, and Kyungsoo can see how Jongin’s slightly shivering. It’s the open window’s work- the gray curtains swaying in the breeze. Kyungsoo’s gaze falls to the curtain slit; from here, the moon shines it gleam as well.
“What are your members like, Jongin?” He disrupts the other once again. Jongin stretches, yawning. The tousled, messy hair makes the alpha attractive, still.
“Most of them are betas.” Jongin arches his back and rests his neck on the side, as if recalling. “Some are mated. Some are not. The only omega, Junmyeon is already mated. They’re nice; the same age group with us.”
“Chanyeol and the others are nice, too.” Kyungsoo fondles on the throw pillow, feeling the fabric detail beneath his fingers. Jongin stares at him incredulously.
“Nice? Are you sure?” Jongin raises his eyebrow. Kyungsoo doesn’t like the other’s tone.
“Jongin. Tomorrow, I should be going with my pack.”
“No. You’re coming with us.” Kyungsoo widens his eyes as he hears Jongin say the words in finality; as if Jongin had already presumed this. Jongin may be a better and more fitting alpha, but Kyungsoo will still take orders from his original one.
“But I barely know them. I don’t belong.”
“You’ll know them tomorrow.” Jongin turns the TV off and pulls the blanket up his chin. “Believe me. You’ll belong.”
The silence engulfs him as Kyungsoo studies the other, wanting to know how Jongin can sound so sure about everything. The assuring but stoic countenance can somehow give the answer. Kyungsoo wants to talk back, but dwindles in his own thoughts. He guesses that’s the other’s charm- people can’t say no to him.
A spark comes across him- that feeling of wanting to break Jongin’s walls.
“Good night, Kyungsoo. We’ll see about this tomorrow.”
Jongin turns the lamp on, rendering the dark room yellow at some point. Kyungsoo stands up and heads to the room, wishing that everything goes well.
The silver linings of the clouds are highly accentuated by the brilliant full moon. Kyungsoo looks up, and the thousand stars blink at them as well, beautifying the ambience. For their kind, none of these matters, as they pass the midnight with heightened senses in the activity.
The woods seem to be brightened by the sheen of the night, but the trees make their part for shading. The old trees look sturdy as always; some have grown; some have been cut down. His assumption weighs more on the former, as he believes wolves won’t cut down their dwellings. Grasshoppers leap from stem to stem. The leaves have been brittle under their steps, attesting to the end of the spring.
A rabbit crosses their path, and Kyungsoo’s breath hitches. Jongin holds his arm, looking at him calmly, as if telling him to wait. Kyungsoo swallows down his urge to claw at the mammal.
Kyungsoo listens to the crickets’ rhythm, accompanied by the rustling leaves as he and Jongin parade towards the darker side of the woods. A faint smell of familiarity hits his senses. He sniffs more, and an alpha scent snaps him out of the mild. They walk further, and Kyungsoo groans. It’s a a bit too much tension for the brightest night of the month- he learns when it registers that his pack is waiting for them, along with the new set of scents he’s unknown of.
He hears a howl, and he immediately acknowledges- it’s his leader.
Jongin takes the steps ahead when they near the rendezvous point. And when they step in the area, Kyungsoo recognizes his pack on the other side of the open forest floor. The moonlight glows in his face, making it difficult to look up at his pack, staring at him. His reverie stops when Jongin pulls him from his stand and brings him to the alpha’s pack. A new set of faces nods in acknowledgment.
“Are you doing well so far?” Baekhyun yells from the emergent, standing proudly at the tough branch. The big leaf shading the beta’s visage make it hard to recognize him.
Kyungsoo observes his pack, standing away from them with their wretched expressions. He takes in the loss of their supportive glances bitterly. A canine howls beside Baekhyun, calling for his attention. The beautiful set of brown fur has been always recognizable- the volume of the soft fur stands out from the rest. Kyungsoo nods at Baekhyun and the alpha beside him.
“Now that you and Jongin are here, I can finally say this.” Baekhyun yells once more, his voice straining. The two packs give their attention, watching their exchange, and Kyungsoo glowers at the beta. “This guy misses you, Kyungsoo.” The beta caresses Chanyeol’s fur while eyeing at them. The alpha bares its fangs. “You still belong to us.”
Jongin places his hand on his shoulder, that kind of a wordless ownership. Kyungsoo gazes at the alpha, locking their eyes.
“I’ll see you later, Baekhyun.” The omega wails back. Jongin pulls his arm away and cards his fingers through his hair.
The night starts with an omega beside him fixing his stance as he pulls his shirt off, his back arching as his expression turns wired. The wolf bares his fangs at the full moon, yapping at its beam. Kyungsoo watches as the omega barks, and soon leaps away from them, ready to catch its prey. A man turns up at Jongin, as if waiting for his go signal. It takes a nod from the alpha before the man follows suit.
Shortly Kyungsoo’s pack makes their stance, one by one uncovering their wolves, and soon they leap off to elsewhere. Baekhyun shares a last long glance before hopping off the branch. Chanyeol claws at the twigs before jumping off the emergent.
One by one, they all go. Kyungsoo watches as they thin in number, until he and Jongin remains.
“Don’t stray away too far, alright?” The alpha tucks Kyungsoo’s hair on his ear, and omega pushes down his will to surrender himself to the other. “I want to accompany you, but I don’t know what my wolf might do.”
His blood heats up, and Kyungsoo strays away from the other’s touch.
“Thanks.”
“I’ll go there when I sense something wrong.” Jongin smiles, figuratively telling that he’s memorized his scent.
Kyungsoo turns away as he subconsciously hunches on the ground. The pain on his back takes his sanity, as his bones break from within. He howls-the pain on his teeth becoming unbearable. The fangs bleed his lips, and Kyungsoo quivers at the headache forming. He blinks, and his vision makes everything vivid, from the single insect clinging on the grass, to Jongin, standing on his side and looking at him.
Kyungsoo surges. The moon shines its light on Jongin, as he cranes his neck. His gaze lingers on the grey fur stretching away from him as fast as an omega can.
Kyungsoo drowns in hype as he dashes from rocks to trees, keeping an eye on the vicinity.
Being the only omega in his pack, Kyungsoo has been always protected. His pack always makes sure not to put him on the front line, and lets him do the final touches instead. If Kyungsoo looks back, all his prey have been rabbits and birds. Sometimes, a beaver crosses his way, and Kyungsoo settles on something good enough. He had appreciated his pack’s efforts to lay bison and sheep in front of him, but Kyungsoo hopes they’d let him grow.
Tonight, he’ll settle for something more.
Kyungsoo sniffs and catches on something. He looks to his right, and the trail of the deer pulls him to follow the line. He dashes; his claws pierce the leaves as he puts force on his steps. The rush had overcome the anxiety, so his vision closes in on the bushes covering his prey.
He runs deep into the woods, and when he nears in his prey, he stops. It’s not just one, but two deers. The deers catch up on his presence, and the omega growls, getting them on the run. The deers take a slow turn, and before they get off the hook, the wolf makes a run towards them. They run, and although they are bigger in size, Kyungsoo does not falter behind. And when the preys are wise enough to split direction, the determined omega is not distracted- he’s got a lock on his prey.
He surges forward and fast, side stepping to every tree on his way. The omega growls on the deer, and a stick breaks beneath his hold as he leaps towards the prey. Waiting for the deer to make the wrong move, he pounces his claws on the body. The deer breaks through, and Kyungsoo jumps on it. It wasn’t easy, for the deer turns over, causing him to be run over by the bigger mammal.
He attacks the shin, and the deer swings its leg on the painful bite, crashing the wolf against the tree. The deer runs fast while his fangs cling on the leg, stumbling him against the forest floor along the way. The scratches sting in his body, but he looks over it as he bites further, causing the deer to wobble. Kyungsoo heads straight to the neck, swarming for the kill.
The deer whimpers on his hold, and the wolf feasts on his success.
It feels triumphant, as the 150-pound lies beside him, defeated all by himself. Kyungsoo shifts to his human, and didn’t know he needed to rest until he lays his back flat on the tree beside him. The assault is tiring more quickly than preying on rabbits. He stands up to pull away the deer, but fails to do so, as his limbs give up on him. He holds the deer’s antler, and forcibly pulls it away from the flesh.
Kyungsoo looks at the wounds he’s had from the predicament, deeming it as a development. The scratches on his arm bleed dark red, darker than night and the deer’s blood.
The presence of the other wolf, indeed, has proven its cling to Kyungsoo’s senses, making him shift his gaze wearingly at the black fur. The olive eyes fixate on him, and Kyungsoo smiles, delighted at the visit.
The alpha quickly runs beside him, and turns to stop, his gaze shifting to the mammal. Kyungsoo fondles on the fur behind the ear, making the wolf snuggle on his side. The wolf rests his heavy and big built against the other, and Kyungsoo looks small on the alpha’s hold.
In a while, Jongin shifts to his human, and the fact that Jongin’s here makes Kyungsoo wonder if the alpha has been watching all along.
“You did great.” Jongin wipes the sweat forming in Kyungsoo’s head. Kyungsoo smiles weakly, watches as flies seep on the deer’s blood.
It’s indeed a sensitive matter, which they both are aware of, knowing that it’s the full moon and they stay close while their senses are heightened. Now that he’s satisfied from feasting on his prey, Kyungsoo hopes he isn’t the only one resisting his appetite for the other’s touch.
Jongin holds his arm, and Kyungsoo takes it as signal to stand up. There’s a lack of hold in his balance, so Jongin coaxes him in his arms and helps him up.
“Kyungsoo?” The omega looks up, and sees Chanyeol running towards them. “I… thought you were alone. I’m glad Jongin was with you.”
“Nope. He did it by himself.” Jongin asserts, his voice low, sending Chanyeol to halt his steps, and Kyungsoo recognizes it’s part of the domineering ability of him.
“Then great.” Chanyeol speaks toneless, and spending years with the alpha, Kyungsoo highly notices the underlying cold sweat. “Come with us, Kyungsoo. You can leave Jongin for now.”
Chanyeol grips on his wrist, and Jongin swats it away. “I brought him here, and he’s going to leave and go home with me.”
“Watch your voice.” Chanyeol eyes Jongin, unwavering. “Just because you’re stronger doesn’t mean you can talk like that.”
“I can’t listen to someone who’s given away an omega for their selfish reasons.” An agitated and protective Jongin earns a place in Kyungsoo’s attention.
Kyungsoo tilts his head and looks up- it’s awesome how the mountains offer a closer view of the sky, where he can pinpoint the stars, hardly counting them. The last thing he hears is Chanyeol rebutting, the words unable to register on his mind before everything blacks out.
The feeling of something hot and damp on his head greets him as he gains consciousness. A blanket lays on him. It’s perfect- he thinks as the warmth embraces him. The sound of a water dripping brings wonder in his mind. He blinks his eyes open- it’s Baekhyun, grinning at him as he dips the cloth in the basin.
“Hey you.” The beta wipes his wounds. Kyungsoo wishes he doesn’t get infected. Somehow, he thinks they don’t hurt that much.
Kyungsoo fights back his yawn. He stretches, flexing his arms and legs on the bed so as to further awaken himself. When he looks at his side, a clatter of worry brushes on him as the sun peeks on the horizon.
“Jongin will come back in an hour or so.” Baekhyun mutters, as if answering the first question Kyungsoo has on his mind. “He’s with his pack now. He said he’ll wait for you.”
Kyungsoo exhales in relief. Satisfaction reaches him, though he recalls his last moments on the woods. He hopes to see Chanyeol doing well. Hearing his whereabouts will do too.
“Where are the others?”
“Chanyeol isn’t home yet, and I’m worried.” Baekhyun sighs. Kyungsoo observes the other, his eyes drooping as he runs the cloth in his leg. “I think he doesn’t want to see you yet, Kyungsoo. I’m sorry for that.”
Kyungsoo wonders about the reason, and shortly swerves at the matter. Marveling is pointless, just like he did the first time he asked ‘why’ when the alpha apologises in front of him. Probably Jongin had warned him. Kyungsoo hopes the alpha didn’t go all that way.
“Sehun went home when he’s done looking after you for a while. And the rest, I’m not sure.”
He nods. Kyungsoo takes in the familiar room once again. It’s Baekhyun’s room- the one he’s used to spend time more than on his own house.
“Let me ask you this.” The younger looks up, and Baekhyun twists the cloth, the water dripping down on the basin. “Does Jongin sleep with you?”
If Kyungsoo’s drinking a water right now, he’ll choke.
“No.” He immediately fends off.
“Really? I thought he would, you know.” The surprise laced on Baekhyun’s tone sounds realistic, and Kyungsoo hopes the other doesn’t see him blush. “I judged Jongin too quickly. It’s easy to think you guys will, for both of your benefit. The arrangement sounded suggestive, after all.”
Jongin doesn’t even go in his room. Kyungsoo doesn’t deny that gut feeling. For a serious and highly rumoured intimidating alpha, he regrettably deemed Jongin as someone who sleeps with anyone as he goes through a rut.
“I hope he enjoys my company, though. He doesn’t talk that much.”
“No, Kyungsoo.” Baekhyun puts the work aside, and pulls the chair closer to the bed. “Hope that he sticks with you in every possible way; be there when anxiety shoots you. Hope that he makes an effort to get to know you; enjoys your dishes whether they’re tasty or not; sits with you through the silence you love so much; influences you, and hope that he does you good; gush about movies, god and experiences with you. And on top of everything- doesn’t treat you lowly just because you’re an omega.”
Kyungsoo crosschecks the list, and somehow, Jongin mostly fills it up. The last item, Kyungsoo is very certain it’s the affirmative. His heart swells, but he doesn’t say this to Baekhyun.
“Don’t settle with uncertainty. If he likes you, then he should do something. He might be your alpha; it doesn’t sound highly impossible.”
Afternoon is here; the first half of the day spent sleeping in Baekhyun’s sheets. The rest of the citizens rake in food as they go through the lunch break rush- Kyungsoo notices this as they head home; some workers in the street in front enjoy their desserts.
Kyungsoo turns out to have his own as well, when Jongin closes the front door and lays the paper bag on the kitchen counter.
“For you.” Jongin pulls out the plastic, and Kyungsoo jaw hinges open as he sees the box of sweets. Excitedly, Kyungsoo helps Jongin unboxing. It’s completely natural for a person to be pleasured when someone goes home with a dessert; what more if it’s Kyungsoo’s craving.
Kyungsoo peeks at the acetate, and a beam breaks in his mouth as he sees the cheesecake, garnished with strawberries on top.
“I heard it’s the first time you took down something that big.” Jongin grins at him, referring to the hunt. “Congratulations.”
“This is too much, Jongin. Thank you.” Kyungsoo walks away and saunters on the shelf, choosing the best plates for the best dessert and pulls out a knife and two forks. Perhaps, the dessert can last for a week; Kyungsoo hopes so. But with his sweet tooth and insatiable liking, he doubts it will even last two days or so.
Overtaken by the delight, he’s unconsciously putting a happy expression on his face, lips shaped like a heart as he slices the cake in half. A smile slowly creeps on Jongin as he watches the other. It’s an upsurge of his thought and money’s worth when Kyungsoo impatiently picks up a strawberry and munches on it.
Kyungsoo shies away, and he coughs as if brushing off the gesture. That’s unethical and unhygienic.
“The bed is big enough for us, Jongin.” Kyungsoo swallows the fruit and wipes his mouth. “I mean you’re tired. You can sleep beside me tonight. Please do so.”
Jongin eyes him, looking in contemplation. A string of regret passes on him when he thinks about his proposal. He bets it awkward. But Jongin smiles, picks up a strawberry and brings it in front of Kyungsoo’s parted lips. Kyungsoo reddens, and Jongin puts the fruit in the other’s mouth.
“Alright, I will.”
Kyungsoo bites into it, and the distinct texture dwells in his tongue. He savors the sweetness.
The continuity of the silence coaxes him to sleep, but the budding restlessness in him does otherwise.
Kyungsoo unfolds the duvet and dusts it off, along with the blankets. The white satin sheets prove to be newly washed, as he smells the lingering detergent. Next comes the pillows, and he eyes the new set sitting beside his. Tonight, he’s taking half of the bed.
The door hinges open, and the other occupant enters the room. Kyungsoo catches the shampoo scent- it’s peppermint. On his peripheral, Jongin dries his hair with a towel.
“Are you sure you feel fine now?” Jongin sets his mouth in a thin line. “Want me to get you meds?”
Kyungsoo pats the last pillow. The cover feels so smooth beneath his fingers. “No. I’m good now.”
The background streams in the sound of the A/C. The monotonous static tells him it’s bed time, but Kyungsoo doubts he’ll be able to sleep soon. Nevertheless, the clock reads 11, and the rest of the neighbourhood seems to be asleep, so Kyungsoo pulls the blanket and slowly props himself down.
Jongin follows suit, and Kyungsoo doesn’t breathe when the bed meets the other’s weight. Kyungsoo wonders about the other’s habits before bed time. It’s befitting for the alpha to sleep in his bed, after all.
Kyungsoo lays his back on the sheets and blinks on the ceiling, waiting for drowsiness to take over him. He waits, but his mind stays awake. He feels the other looking at him sternly, so he shuts his eyes and succumbs on the bed’s warmth.
“Can I ask you something, Kyungsoo?” Jongin breaks his stupor, and the other pays him heed.
“Go on.” Kyungsoo props his arm on his side for a better angle.
“When is your next heat?” Kyungsoo does a double take on the impassive question. He shrinks back. The uneasiness becomes evident in the other’s countenance, and before Jongin takes it back, Kyungsoo responses.
“I don’t know.” An omega can never pinpoint a particular time, especially Kyungsoo who had his heat only once. “But soon.” Kyungsoo hopes his answer is substantial enough.
“Soon?”
“There are signs, Jongin.” Kyungsoo perceives the other is close to asking what, but Jongin chooses not to. Kyungsoo assumes the other knows, and wonders if Jongin can sense the difference. It’s a bit humiliating in his part, and Kyungsoo can’t do anything. Alphas are highly intuitive of these things, anyway.
“Alright.” Jongin nods, and Kyungsoo marvels what Jongin means by that. “Good night, Kyungsoo.”
Jongin pulls the blanket on top of them. Kyungsoo founds out why he stays awake- he’s never used to sleeping with the lights on.
As if jinxed, it comes sooner than he thinks. It’s a pain to sit through the torridity as he sits on the balcony, watering the plants. He winces as his head throbs, and it’s a big effort not to throw the pail in his hand just to alleviate the uneasiness. He moves on to the next stem, and the humid creeps up on his skin. Kyungsoo groans at the chills.
The front door swings open. Kyungsoo cranes his neck responsively, shooting his blood-shot eyes at the alpha.
“Why are you here?” Kyungsoo speaks over, more high-pitched than he intends to.
Jongin swings by the living room and strides fast. He pulls Kyungsoo by the arm, and the other tumbles the pail out of his hand. He’s shoved inside, and it’s highly disturbing how the living room reeks of his scent.
“Jongin.” He grunts, all the while the other looks straight at the door as he forces Kyungsoo in. The omega stumbles, and Jongin doesn’t go in, leaving the other in the room. Kyungsoo squints at him, looking distorted as his wolf desires to rift off him.
“Listen,” Jongin huffs, looking disoriented. “I’m going to lock the door, and you’re not going to release it.”
“Jongin. It hurts.”
“You’re not going to release it.” Jongin repeats, and somehow Kyungsoo thinks the other is telling it to himself.
The alpha shares his last glance before closing the door. Kyungsoo whimpers at the hurdle.
He trudges to the bed and jumps at the pillow, aching for any form of friction. He grits his teeth as he tries to tone down his heat, but he can’t do it- not when his body reflexively thrashes on the sheets. He pulls out his roots, and growls as he figuratively splits the pain he feels on his lower half.
It’s the work of his throbbing gums that make him chew the pillow sheets, his canines almost slitting the fabric. It goes for the longest minutes, and he’s perplexed as it takes him long enough before he shamelessly dry humps the bed. As if he has a choice. However, it does him nothing better. Kyungsoo finds it unfair how the world around him is silent; how every single thing watches him as he goes through the battle between madness and lust.
Kyungsoo finds it upsetting that Jongin leaves him alone through this.
He stands up, knocking down the set of books as he supports himself on the nightstand. The floor shakes beneath him, or so he thinks, as his legs wobble. His vision darkens, closing in the knob as the door catches him.
“Jongin.” He groans. The wood screeches; the grain peeling off as he claws the door.
“Jongin. Kim Jongin.” He cries. It’s only the silence that replies him.
Kyungsoo bites on his sleeve, and shortly it cuts through his lower lip. The iron taste sends Kyungsoo reeling. He knocks his head on the door and glides- somehow wanting to hear anything on the other side. Kyungsoo sniffs, and confirms that Jongin’s there outside.
“Jongin.” Kyungsoo pleads once more, clutching on the knob as he attempts to open it. “Alpha. Please.”
Something grumbles outside. The foot steps are faint, but Kyungsoo’s sensitive enough to hear those. He balls his fist and curls down behind the door. His breath hitches as the steps come closer. Kyungsoo jolts, and the sounds of the latch being unbolted rings on his ears vividly.
The knob turns, and Kyungsoo burns from anticipation. He slightly slips away, allowing the hinge to make its turn. The door opens painfully slow, and all he wants to do is to jump on the alpha.
But he does not- when Jongin stares, looking down at him with the same hooded eyes he has. Kyungsoo’s neck fixates as he looks up, and gulps as the other stays silent. Everything is muted, except for his desire and the attraction pulling him in.
“Love me.” A whisper.
In a split second Jongin picks up the body nestled on the floor. Kyungsoo yelps as he’s pushed up against the wall. Jongin’s breath ghosts his lips, and Kyungsoo yearns to close the proximity.
“You smell so good, Kyungsoo.” Jongin purrs in his jaw, and it’s the alpha’s hoarse voice that untames him. “You. Don’t. Know. How long I’ve waited for this.”
“I want you. Please.” Kyungsoo whimpers at the lack of touch. He takes his liberty to run his fingers on the other’s hair, before Jongin leans in and gently nibbles on his lip.
Kyungsoo melts at the contact, and immediately responses though inexperienced. He’s pushed further against the wall, as Jongin molds their lips deeper. It’s the emanating burn from the alpha that makes Kyungsoo grip on his shirt, pulling them closer. The omega parts his lips, and soon Jongin delves further in his mouth.
More. More. Kyungsoo thirsts for more. It’s easy to part his legs and welcome the other, judging on how Jongin closes himself in on him. So he does, and Kyungsoo locks his heels at the back of Jongin. Ah. It’s the friction he badly wants. Jongin humps him on the wall, sliding their crotches against each other, fast and deep. It’s just a taste of heaven for Kyungsoo.
Jongin doesn’t disconnect their mouths when he hoists the other up and throws their bodies on the bed. The flame stays, and Kyungsoo brushes his crotch on the other’s.
“I want your knot.”
Jongin doesn’t need to be told twice. He pulls out Kyungsoo’s pants, and the omega moans as Jongin pumps his erection fast. Jongin kneels in between his legs as he nibbles on the milky thighs, his other hand busy caressing the skin. Kyungsoo lays there defenceless, out and open, and the gaze Jongin gives him make him so dominant and authoritative, that the omega willingly submits himself under the other’s mercy.
Kyungsoo screams when Jongin goes straight under his erection, sniffing all his glory. The tongue licks on the sensitive part, before sucking the balls deep. He wails as the warmth scoops him in. Jongin soon sucks on his erection, and Kyungsoo claws the bedsheet, his eyes rolling back as everything reeks in pleasure. Kyungsoo thinks on how he might choke Jongin when the alpha goes down further.
His self-lubrication seeps out as Jongin’s tongue licks him off. Kyungsoo feels the burn as Jongin’s fingers trail in his legs. His legs are being pushed apart, and Jongin’s domineering control excites him more. And he’s so horny that he opens his legs the widest as possible in his heart’s content. Jongin rakes in the view, salivating at the omega who’s submissive and all. Kyungsoo gives him more by pulling out his shirt, flaunting the milky torso that’s waiting to be tainted and bruised. Jongin discards his clothes as well, and Kyungsoo enjoys the strip show.
Jongin situates his shaft in front of his ass, and no matter how horny Kyungsoo feels, his breath still hitches when the enormous erection slowly makes its way in his tight hole. Kyungsoo mewls at the intrusion, and Jongin rocks them both as if soothing the other; nips on the other’s neck as if distracting from the pain. Jongin pounces on him fast, the squelching self-lubricant being put to good use. Kyungsoo shuts his eyes, not being able to handle how hot Jongin looks at him, all endearing and tender, yet feisty as he takes him to oblivion. He feels so full. So hot. So high, as the swelling erection goes in and out of him.
Kyungsoo melts at the animalistic speed, his breath ragged until Jongin pushes his legs down and hits his sweet spot. Kyungsoo screams, and Jongin is more than pleasured to give what the other wants. So he abuses the spot, and Kyungsoo meets him halfway, moving his hips towards the other. He shamelessly moans, not caring whether the neighbours mind the good fuck.
Jongin pulls himself out, bringing Kyungsoo with him along the way; cursing as the hole tightens further, like pulling him in deep. It stings, but the absence of something big within him matters more. Jongin flips him, and Kyungsoo buries his face on the pillow, but soon he’s being pulled up by the neck. It’s rough, but Kyungsoo quickly decides he likes it. Jongin enters him for the second time, and the pleasure he feels doesn’t dwindle one bit.
The alpha doesn’t move though, and Kyungsoo groans at the lack of grinding.
“Move.” Kyungsoo braces himself as he holds the bed sheets, getting the hint- Jongin wants him to enjoy himself.
He bucks his hips and arches back. Kyungsoo sets his legs apart, wanting every inch of arousal in him as he fucks himself while Jongin stays still. On all fours, Kyungsoo grinds his hips back and forth as Jongin rests his hand on the ass, the other craning his neck as a finger rests in the other’s tongue- Kyungsoo licks it in the process.
Feeling worn-out and rough, his legs give up on him. Kyungsoo buries himself on the sheets and shoots his cum. Jongin gives him butterfly kisses on the back, and along the way gives him hickeys. He takes the liberty to work Kyungsoo in the open, fucking him hard until his erection swells, his knot closely forming.
“Fuck, Kyungsoo.” Jongin rides his high, until his knot is more than big enough to slip it off. “Let me claim you. Let me own you.”
A new-found bliss buds in him. Kyungsoo huffs happily, though tired. He’s more than prepared to be mated by his alpha at this moment.
He wordlessly twists his body- it’s painful, but it’s worth it, as he lays back on his bed, Jongin on top of him looking perplexed. Kyungsoo cranes his neck up, inviting Jongin to dive in. And when Jongin seeds his fangs on the flesh, the painful indulgence is god damn worth it.
All Jongin does is push his knot further, until he lets loose his cum. Jongin gives up his body on Kyungsoo’s side, and even though he’s been rough, the alpha doesn’t want to hurt his little omega in the end.
“I never told you how I like you. But now I will. Mate.” Jongin murmurs, catching his breath. “We’re now mates.”
He marvels as how his former leader will react to this. But he shrugs it off. Now, he focuses on the fascination he feels. From this proximity Kyungsoo finds enchantment, as Jongin looks so pleasing with the messy hair and almond eyes, giving him a genuine smile. He finds amusement at the giddiness laced on the tone that was supposedly coming from someone serious and cold.
“We are.” Kyungsoo smiles back, and Jongin pushes back the black mop of hair, wanting to see the omega’s beauty.
“That means you’re mine, and you’re never going to leave me.”
It’s amazing how Jongin has all this remaining energy to mutter those words. But Kyungsoo is grateful, as it doesn’t fail to spark butterflies in his system. Feeling tired, he makes up at his lack of response by cupping the other’s cheek.
“Well, I guess it’s a yes.” Jongin grins, and leans in for their next sweet kiss.
