yesterday, what a goddamn amazing day. of course it started with the basic getup at 530am, drudge through work until about 215pm, get off and take the mutt for a walk, then veg-out to an independent film about a crew making an independent film called "living in oblivion" starring steve buscemi and dillon mcdermott. but that seems like a different day altogether when you pale it in comparison to what happened from about 4pm on. enough foreplay, yesterday me and oz trucked it up to the Virgin media store in the gateway mall to meet, watch, listen to, and admire the man behind a brilliant new book. Yesterday we met Krist Novoselic from Nirvana, heard him discuss his ideals in his book "of grunge and government," talked to the man briefly about music and politics, confirmed the correct pronunciation of his last name(we were right thank you much soilent), and of course had him leave his mark on our books, and on oz's leg. later that night oz got that signature tattooed on him just above a crude happy face with X's for eyes. cool shit eh? and of course we got pics with the man. god...what an experience.

Krist(yes we are on a first name basis now) had alot to say about the government, and even though i read his book, it was nice to hear him break down his solutions to what he referred to as an "antiquated system" of elections. i wont go through his whole spiel, but in short he talked alot about how to get young people to vote, but at the same time, adjust the system so they are not just throwing their vote away. the one solution that sounded most practical to me was Instant Runoff Voting(IRV). I had no idea it was even in practice yet, but i guess utah of all places is using it to nominate who they put in the house. And in san francisco, they passed "proposition A"(the proposition adopting IRV) in 2002 and will use IRV this november to elect 7 seats on the San francisco board of supervisors. in the future they plan to use it for electing the mayor, governor, district attorney, ect. if it works out for them, theres a chance a proposition could be passed to instate IRV for presidential elections(in the very distant future im sure...2008 maybe?). basically what that means for us is we would all have an opportunity, democrats, republicans, AND independents, to have a say in who gets elected. no more primarys, no more spoilers(IE ralph nader), no more losing democrat votes and increasing republican success by voting independent ect. one election, one ballot, all party's listed. all you have to do is list your favorites in order and hope to god the inept old colostomy bag carrying feebs in florida can figure it out. then when the ballots are counted, the candidate with the most votes ranking him as the CITIZEN'S first choice is the winner. if there is a tie, the candidate in last place gets bumped out, and another round of voting ensues until we've narrowed down one candidate. this way, the people actually get to decide for themselves, instead of having an electoral college represent only the MAJOR PARTY in the state. Not the mention the candidates themselves campaigning only in the states with the most electoral votes. because how does a democrat/independent get a say in who his president casting his vote in the republican state of utah with a whole 5 electoral votes? he/she doesnt, its like throwing a glass of fresh water into an ocean and expecting it to turn into evian. so if IRV works out in San francisco this november i'll be stoked, they'll set the example and hopefully we can run with it.

for more info checkout http://www.fairvote.org/irv/ or just look up IRV in any search engine.

anyway, that would be nice, but most likely not going to happen. there is too much money wrapped up in rigging elections and buying state votes to allow american citizens the right to elect a man/women to decide the fate of their country.

also that night, jen and liz hung out for a very short while. chilled at the old man's place and they watched me and oz smoke cigars. I CANT IMAGINE WHY YOU DIDNT WANT TO STAY. heh. but regardless it was good to see you 2. like your pics from washington, already commented about it.

now the oz and i must go down to guitar center, check out the babes from marks arc, and get back to la casa to jam with our badass redneck drummer. "fucking a"

peace.
