I did manage despite being in pain from both the knee and ankle bugging to get some needful things done. I got some grow lights plus mole/gopher repellant, checked out the feed spikes for the fruit trees but not sure I will do so since it requires a whole lot of bending over. I also "discovered" something that other urban gardeners probably already knew about: Automatic watering systems. They run on batteries as to running on electricity though some solar powered ones would be cool. I called Mom to tell her about what I found and about how we would not need to ask people to water any more if we could do this set up. It also means the garden would be properly watered early enough so that nobody would have to get up or do nothing more than turn a faucet head. Probably not even that. :D
JoAnn's visit yields longer bamboo knitting needles so I can work on my magick shawl again this time doing the stitch properly with more cast ons. I also picked up a book on the not well used Tuisian crochet stitch which makes a more dense work. I think this will be cool when doing...or eventually doing more complicated crochet work. Yay again.
Lastly, I stopped by the now local Fresh n Easy to pick up some makings for pico de gallo. I have like this giant back of cilantro from FnE which despite its due date, has lasted more than two weeks beyond that thanks to being right up near the freezer. Plus we have been keeping the fridge pretty full so it works a lot less. A benefit considering how old this fridge actually is and how noisy it can be when running.
After fixing the covering over the coop no thanks to the wind blowing it all crazy, I locked up the chickens then did a walk around the property kind of. I mostly wanted to see how my big ass pruning jobs went with the trees. Well the apricot that gets the most sun is loaded with fruit. Like way more than necessary to keep us fed. Not sure I will let them all get up to size otherwise we will not have large fruit but wow it makes a difference to the tree. The plum doesn't have a lot on it but a closer look found a lot of healthier looking fruit on it. We usually have way too much plums anyway so keeping them more in check should be easier. As for the two trees who get the least amount of sun they have fruot on them but not a whole lot. The one apricot suffers from being in a very shaded spot while the other plum tree is just so big that its fruit gets lost in the leaves or doesn't mature at all. I did cut a few branches but not nearly like I did on the other plum or apricot.
Blooming now are the lemon, grapefruit and tangerine tree. It is going to smell good around here in about two weeks :D
