I mean like a massive improvement over last week. She's still favoring it but the heat is much lower in her foot so perhaps that abcess is finally moving its way down someplace where the farrier can get to it. I think I found it too and it is pretty high up but close to the surface of her hoof wall. We were doing "walk by this big blue object with a cover that moves" testing and I discovered that sizes matters not. Kelly walked on these thick, brick used to shore up walls like it was nothing. One gave way under her "ew, scary" dance over the top but she took it in stride moving forward away from the blue object. So now I know my horse can walk on a very narrow path and keep her footing even if its kind of shaky under her. Wow. Several more passes and I stopped her to sniff it. She didn't really blow nor did she resist walking by it, it was just startling to her. This from a horse who sniffes and "laughs" at firepits popping and cracking at her. Honestly.
Anyway, she did manage to scrape some of her hoof that was peeling anyway and got a small cut. as I was pulling the dead stuff off, I could smell it. So I found the abscess area on the outer side right hoof. It was HOT but it also means its very close to popping. Tuesday I will soak her foot again and see if we can encourage it to move even closer and pop. Ew but it stinks!
Six more eggs from the chickens who finally got out of the coop. I am having them left in there until they have mostly laid their eggs for the day before they get out to tear up the yard. I am more pleased they can't really fly any more so raids into the garden have pretty much stopped. Good thing to since I am starting the fall planting here and there.
