well...that was interesting...

I just had a very weird, certainly random, night.  Today I was going to go into school to do some work but i ended up watching Bones online instead.  At about 7:30 I decide that I'm hungry and went to make some dinner only to find that Valentina (new roommate) was kinda having a dinner party with two of her friends.  One of the friend's boyfriend was supposed to come but he couldn't make it so Valentina invited me to dinner because now they had way too much food.  Everyone knows how I feel about free food so i accepted.  It ended up being a 3 course meal.  First, we had these wide lemon zested noodles with a light alfredo sauce and parmesan cheese which was very tasty.  The there was a walnut and apple salad with balsamic dressing.  Then there were lamb chops and these mini potatoes that reminded me of green grapes and eyeballs.  They were good though.  There was also wine.

Valentina's friends were very nice and we all talked quite a bit and hit it off.  So well, in fact, that they persuaded me to go out with them.  I was hesitant, but then i sucked it up and went anyway.  We went to the Liberty Hotel which used to be an old brick prison back in the day (which is really cool) so it has a very prisony vibe about it with grates on the windows and some of the cell doors as partitions.  It reminded me of alcatraz a lot, but a very nice, swanky alcatraz.  The line ended up being crazy long and it took forever for us to get in which was problematic because 2 of us went to go see what the situation was and ended up inside but we had to wait in the line.  It took a while.  We went to the bars inside, Alibi and Liberty, and the girls got drinks.  Some of their cocktails had fun prison-related names that i can't recall.  They also had celebrity mug shots on the walls of Alibi including paris hilton, lindsey lohan, hugh grant, divine brown, and a very young al pacino.  There wasn't as much dancing as there was drinking and bar stuff.  I did see a very drunk girl fall off a chair she was trying to stand on and into her friends.  While i was at the bar with one of Valentina's friends, some guy bought the drinks that she asked for so i got a free bud light.  One of Valentina's friends became horrifically drunk and she's an angry/violent drunk which is never a good thing.  That caused some problems.

We left at 2 and had trouble getting said drunk girl into a cab because she was trying to get the bouncer's number and we lost the first cab to another group that wasn't promptly cursed at by drunk girl.  When we got a cab and were heading home, the driver was at first angry with us and then he was chatting up Valentina in the front seat about the proper procedure for addressing the card for a wedding gift.  That was insanely weird and awkward.

When we got home, there was a drunk freshman on our steps.  Very drunk.  Very freshman.  His name was Brendan.  Valentina tried to get him to sit on our porch til he sobered up because she didn't trust that he actually knew how to get home but once she gave him the cigarette he asked for, he waddled home...or to somewhere else.

Finally, as the girls were leaving the house, they just caught their car being towed because they parked in the back.  Not so great.  Valentina bribed the guy $50 to get him to not tow it.  It was a nightmare/disaster.

It was an interesting night.

p.s. bars that don't allow smoking are 100 times better than bars that do.  They're cleaner and nicer and don't make you feel dirty and smelly when you leave.

boston, food, awkward
