Taking a look around
Sedricke's blog I spotted an article for last year's Ms. Japan representative for Ms. Universe, Kurara Chibana.
She was the one with the samurai national costume and almost won the Ms. Universe 2006 title. It was interesting to note how Japan progressed through the rankings and finally won the Ms. Universe title which they haven't grasped since the 1950s. Ever since 2003, Ms. Japan became a favorite for the top 15 in the Ms. Universe pageant and gradually won 4th, 2nd and 1st runner-up before finally winning the grand title this year.
Many have been bitter again that our Ms. Philippines bet didn't even score a place in the top 15 and I heard some people saying that Ms. Japan won because the evening gown sponsor was
Tadashi and the crown sponsor was
Mikimoto Pearls (ROFL, it was quite a believable theory). But seeing as how
Miss Universe Japan or MUJ, their local counterpart for our
Binibining Pilipinas, holds the contest for seven months (yes, they have pre-pageant events spanning for 7 months to narrow down the contestants from 4,000+ to the final 6 that will participate in the coronation night) it's a wonder why they haven't produced winners until now. They really take this seriously!
I wonder when will the Philippines stop winning Ms. Photogenic (we've been at it since 1996) and start winning the grand title?
